Question about the American Values Straw Poll

Hey, I have some questions I'm not understanding it too much.

I've heard talk about people reporting thompson coming third when really ron did and such.

My understanding is there was a poll of audience members and an online poll as well which you had to donate a dollar or more to participate in.

People are annoyed because the media reported the poll taken with the people at the event and not the one that included both sets of data?

So my question if that is correct is WTF?

Isn't that good reporting? You WANT to take a sample of the people who actually SAW THE SPEAKERS surely?

Now my confusion...

WHY DID RON PAUL GET SUCH A LOW VOTE???? I saw the video on youtube and he was getting lots of cheers and a STANDING OVATION at the end... how the hell does that translate into like 2% of the vote?

I don't get it... Did ron really have no support in the venue?

Then this makes RP first tier as he has the third highest money and is third among a total of 5,000 votes in a straw poll.

I actually heard both sets of data reported yesterday. Faux News was discussing the difference between the online votes and attendant votes.

There is nothing significant about us comoing third in an online poll in fact it's slightly disapointing. The significant part is us getting like 2% in the event that was attended by people who may not have the internet AND HEARD HIM SPEAK.

I seriously can't understand how he could have polled that low with the people there. He is such a convincing speaker and has impeccable christian credentials also like I said he got a standing ovation in the video on youtube

How many people were at the event at the start and how many saw ron speak, anybody know?

They broke up the poll into two results. One with attendees and one online poll with the combined attendee votes.

These was a convention of preachers, church personnel and others. Huckabee is a preacher, so the attendees would consider him as one of them.


Huck and Romney got a thousand votes online plus five hundred votes from attendees. Another thing to consider was this was a fundraising type of poll.

You had to pay at least one dollar to participate. You had to use a credit card or some other payment method.

Some people may have payed more by mistake. The default payment for me was set at fifty dollars which I changed to one dollar.

Huckabee supports a federal ban on same sex marriage and civil unions.

Huckabee rejects the theory of evolution.

Huckabee contends that we have a moral obligation to stay in Iraq.

But most importantly he speaks the language of evangelicals in every way, from his verbiage, to his symbolism, to even his cadence and demeanor. It's something of an intangible quality, but Bush had it, Huckabee has mastered it, and Ron Paul just doesn't have it.

2500 attended the event over 900 voted onsite. Many of the people that attended could have voted online. Remember Ron Paul spoke the first day Huckabee the last day of the event. People voting for Huckabee after hearing him speak had to pretty much vote at the event. People that heard Ron Paul speak the first day most likely went home and voted from there.

Im not speaking for all christians obviously, but many of them seem to value style over substance. Huckabee has that way of speaking like a preacher that these people relate to. I can understand why they like him. They dont care about his past record, they dont care about Romneys flip-flopping. They hear something, and if it sounds good, hey, its good for them.

These people are also supporters of the war, which is something that is very difficult for them to see past with RP, even though they like what he says about everything else.

I already knew Ron wouldnt get a majority from these people. Im just glad he got 3rd. Ron Paul will get the Christian vote from Christians that understand the difference between their faith and what the federal government should do for them. The rest will vote for whoever their leaders give the nod to.

Pretty depressing, I know, but well get many of them. We need to concentrate on level headed christians that think for themselves.

Values voters is kind of an odd thing to call your group anyway. I mean, who doesnt vote on their values? WTF?

this shows that if these people are the dominant republican base that the polling by Gallup may be pretty accurate.

What is sickening is that PAUL spoke to these people with a very good message that I could find no fault with at all.....either they LOVE the "war" or they are scared off by not understanding the concept of Pauls in regards to "de-federalization" of things instead of the Religious rights desire to "federally" dictate policy.

how is it that a man that supports gay rights and abortion gets more "values voter" votes??? We have definetly declined in this country to a point where it will assuredly collapse within a short time IMHO.

Americans are our biggest enemy. the revolution to re-establish what we used to be (barring a economic collapse) if it is to be accomplished will NOT be by peaceful means (unfortunate reality).

Alot of people here refused to vote b/c it was a Christan event.....and they are disgusted with this group......rightly so in many waays but SUCK IT UP PEOPLE b/c THAT was an IMPORATNT POLL unlike all these tarded ones we do in yoru lil city newspaper! Tehy are all importanat but lets get perspective on whts more imp.

Ron Paul could have gone after Rudy and probably persuaded the audience. However, the purpose of Ron Paul's speech was to introduce his take on government.

Ron could have spoken almost exclusively on religious issues toward this group and received more votes. Instead he talked about the spending, gold issues, federal reserve, some religious issues and other issues that many of the audience were not that familiar with.

Yes...HOWEVER...I believe that the summit is actually a micro reflection of the fundamental christian voter base out there. I would not be surprised if among this group of Christians (the kind that are not socialist left wingers with ordained Homosexuals) that these percentages actuall will represent their voter bloc and their voter bloc is MASSIVE and they vote.

The online poll required a donation to vote in, yes.

But it's the on SITE poll that Ron Paul scored only 2% in.

Presumably there was some donation or membership fee required to get in, but even so, Ron Paul did get only 2% support of those who saw the speeches live.

The religious right voters are increasingly seeming like a waste of time at this point. Unfortunately Huckabee isn't going anywhere until at least after the early states.
