Quality American made companies you are proud of?????

Maglite...darn good flashlights--I'm particularly fond of the 4-cells with a replacement LED bulb.

Well... Once we get some decent American companies to make sueded plaid overshirts, I may be a little more optimistic regarding our political situation. Right now, it's all coming from Haiti, cheaper and higher-quality than the few American companies.

Harley Davidson?
Snap On?
Mac Tools?

I thought Caterpillar was now making stuff overseas no?

Craftsman tools.

The D-6, D-5 and D-4 dozers are made in Japan.

I run a marine vessel that has 6 CAT marine engines. The main engines are 3516 B models. They are made here, but some of the parts come from MAK with which Cat merged.

They are crap compared to the ones from 20 years ago.

American Standard, toilet fixtures... some of the very best in the world.

I recall a visit as a young teenager to an AS plant in Wall Township NJ. This would be about 1979 or so.

Amazing place, they sand cast "sloan" valves right on site, with their own foundry, raw material in one end, finished, complex, chromed valves out the other.

Last time I was down that way, the place was gone, the property leveled, and a strip mall stood on the hill.

Later I learned the making of the internals of those valves got outsourced.

Microsoft
Apple
Amazon
Netflix
Dell
Are all great companies that took advantage of the the move to the digital age.

Caterpillar, it is a huge company and job provider in my area.

You're kidding right? Dell, Apple, and Microsoft all outsource labor and jobs to other countries.

Yeah, hard to keep up. A couple of years ago, I'd have smiled broadly and typed Converse shoes. No more.

Nice to see Zippo mentioned. Cat barely qualifies these days, but John Deere certainly does.

Love my Weber grill.

Wow John Deere really?
And Weber Grills are very good quality.

Wow John Deere really?

Springfield, Mo. And still noticeably better quality than Ford...

Mack Trucks, meanwhile, are still built here for the most part but are owned lock, stock and barrel by the Swedes.

It isn't easy for American manufacturing, in truth. I'm not crying for the management--they're at bare minimum half the problem. The Union Disease still afflicts them, but very little at this point. Mostly, they're suffering from the Dilbert Disease, and there's nothing the people on the production floor can do about that.
