President Obama Roasts Republicans, Shouts Out Rand Paul 'Interesting Guy' at DNC Meeting VIDE

I always like some light political ribbing.

Usually I can't stand watching Obama, but that audience honestly made him seem bearable in comparison.

Two thoughts:

1. I'm starting to think that the Huckabee/Santorum crowd actually hates Rand's guts (and our guts) more than Obama and the Left.

2. Are they pretending (or playing up) that Rand is their "favorite republican" because they know the best way to stop Rand is with the braindead GOP base?

Go to your county GOP convention and you'll find out you're wrong. It's the people who want to keep the socons irrelevant except as useful idiots in their promotion of turning the whole Middle East into a flaming inferno that you're thinking of.

Yes. Yes, they are. Even as they try desperately in other venues to teach them to hate us all.

I won't listen to any......

What'd dear-reader have to say?

Video Clip of Obama summed up:

1. The numbers have been fluffed.
2. Fluffed numbers is our product.
3. The Republican Party wants to change & take credit to the fluffed numbers.
4. Rand Paul is the change, so he's our target.

Yeah- for me he almost seemed bitter that the democrats are not out competing for votes. He seemed especially annoyed when people started laughing at him for even mentioning Rand Paul because he wasn't joking.

The Democrats do try to embrace a perceived political threat tightly. I don't recall the Republicans ever playing that particular card.

Last election cycle we heard warm words mouthed by certain Democrats (especially those around the president) about Gov Jon Huntsman. This, of course, was used to bash Huntsman in the Republican primaries, regardless of his rather conservative record. Axelrod and others have since confirmed that they saw Huntsman as the most serious threat in a General Election match-up. Do they see Rand Paul in the same way?

Or, it could be that - regardless of the mindless laughs from the audience (they seemed to laugh uproariously at everything that came from the president's mouth - although, in fairness, some of us have had the same reaction throughout his term of office) that Obama was actually making a serious point.

A warm welcome to you Welsh Paulite. Thank you for the thoughtful post here and I look forward to hearing more from you going forward.

If I have understood your thesis, you are asserting that praise of Huntsman by Democrats would turn Republicans against him. This is intriguing and plausible. Yet Huntsman's problem with the GOP base was that he was , like the rest, in no way conservative. Rand Paul is a constitutional originalist and very different from Huntsman. Praise for Rand from the left only underscores the expansive reach of the libertarian philosophy and empowers conservatives to usurp antiwar and civil liberty issues away from progressives and firmly into their own domain. Praise from the left empowers Mr. Paul, rather than weakens him. A very different dynamic in my humble opinion.

By the way Jon Huntsman was supported by the Rothschilds:

God help the establishment if Rand deflects the media assault upon him and turns 2016 into a class war. The assault has slowly but surely begun. The political balance is very unstable in my opinion. Hang onto your hats.

Thank you anaconda. Much appreciate your warm welcome. Yes, I well remember Lynn de Rothschild hosting a fundraiser for Huntsman at her home in London.

I agree with you. The media assault is beginning. You can hear the pounding of distant guns. Hang onto your hats, indeed, but just make sure they are tin hats. This could get rather unpleasant.

If you don't want to sit through the whole thing, you can skip to 5:37.

I've never, ever seen him that relaxed. Interesting.

Nope. Ask them about getting rid of New Deal policies and about not waging war on any country that is predominately Muslim.

Would you have me believe that Texas social conservatives are THAT different from Oklahoma social conservatives??? I don't believe it for a minute. Nixon's Southern Strategy is still hard at work and is effective. Don't even get me started about the drug war and TX and OK. I know too well about dry counties and how it follows social conservatism. Stopping the drug war is a pointless argument in these communities.
