PPP surveyed 807 registered voters between June 21-23, 2013, including 340 Republican primary voters and 316 Democratic primary voters.

(Asked of 340 Republican primary voters)
Given the choices of Jeb Bush, Chris Christie,
Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal, Susana Martinez,
Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, and Rick
Santorum, who would you most like to see as
the GOP candidate for President in 2016?

Rand Paul -------------- 21%
Jeb Bush --------------- 13%
Chris Christie ----------- 12%
Ted Cruz --------------- 12%
Marco Rubio ------------ 10%
Paul Ryan --------------- 9%
Bobby Jindal ------------- 6%
Susana Martinez --------- 3%
Rick Santorum ----------- 1%
Someone else/Not sure -- 13%

Not a time to get cocky, Guliani was at 30% on the far outreaches in 2006-7 and it turned out very differently.

Rudy also solely ran on being the neocon mayor of NYC in the state of FL. Paul has a strong presence in early states.

I notice that Frothy is at 1%. :) That won't stop him from selling his bullshit to old church ladies though.

And skipped campaigning in NH... A lot of people I knew dropped support after that, because they felt it meant he wasn't very serious. They still liked him, but didn't think he really cared about winning. I don't think Rand has that problem so far. He's traveling often, showing up, weighing in on major current events and debates that come up...and just generally coming across as very driven and hard working.

Not only does he lead by 8, but Cruz has 12% in that poll. I'd suspect Paul's lead would be between 12-13 if Cruz were not included.

He ran on the 9/11 platform. He also looked like the Penguin

"9/11...9/11....9/11..."

Interestingly we have the women vote against everyone else and 10% more women voted in this poll. ALSO, we got slaughtered for the young vote, Ted Cruz won that big time.

That is great, but it is disturbing that Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are so high on the list....

Rand needs allies in the Senate and the next few days starting now is the Greg Brannon moneybomb. So help Rand out by helping Brannon with some loot >>http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?419638-Greg-Brannon-US-Senate-Throw-Down-Party. Very important that we donate as much as we can by the end of the month so this in turn results in many more donations and endorsements headed Brannon's way. Perhaps a mod could front page my thread in GP?

You can see the various wings split in the party with who they are voting for. Christie is getting the moderate/left-leaning Rockefeller wing. Bush is getting the establishment neo-cons. Rubio and Ryan are getting the semi-tea party mainstream republicans, and Rand is getting the true libertarian/tea party wing + a small % of every single aforementioned wing that likes him. Cruz is splitting some of that vote with Rand. I imagine his demographic are the people who are more towards freedom than Ryan/Rubio but probably think Rand is a little "too extreme" but would probably switch to Rand if Cruz wasn't there as an option.

All other things being equal, this would be an excellent point. But all other things are not equal. Rand Paul != Rudolph Giuliani.

So can't we get just a little bit cocky? Please? :)

I really hope n pardon my French Cruz doesn't fuck this up for Rand.. When you look at who's cochairing his PAC n who his wife works for his intentions make ya wonder.

But, we were told by some here that Rand Paul caused massive damage to himself with his "dancing Libertarians" comments, and that he needed to be more like Ron Paul if he was to ever hope to win the GOP presidential nomination.

Could that have been...wrong?!

He hasnt even announced and if nominated he has to win the general election so I wouldnt be counting your chickens. Who was polled? Were pot smoking libertarians polled? That being said, as a libertarian I would most likely vote for Rand unless he says or does something that goes against my ideals of liberty between now and then. I'm willing to give him a pass for "political wrangling" up to a point. I'm sure I am not alone.

I try not to put too much in to polls from states that have later primaries, but obviously being in the lead is pretty nice.

A few weeks ago I actually took a quick trip to Montana and somewhere along the side of the highway someone had a handmade Rand Paul sign. It was just a plain white board that someone had spray painted "Rand Paul" on.

Exactly, this was a poll of the friggin Republican voters, remember. I would imagine, true libertarian types don't identify as Republican.

It also looks like PPP was using a very small sample in this poll: apparently they only found 9 (nine) people aged 18-29, planning to vote Republican, with Rand getting one vote (11%) and Rubio getting none (0%). lol
