PPP Poll (1/1/12): Paul 20%, Romney 19%, Santorum 18%

A lot of women are sexually attracted to Romney, that's what is really going on, they just won't admit it because they think it makes them sound superficial.

Let's wheel Rand out a bit more then ;)

The Kelly Clarkson ordeal probably reinforced the idea that supporting a "racist" is not done, political correctness works every time, though it's harder to enforce when casting an anonymous vote - phone polls are not anonymous.

Ordeal? Political Correctness was beaten in the Kelly Clarkson case. The story was Kelly Clarkson supported Ron Paul and her sales skyrocketed.

looks like the barrage of media hit pieces scared women away more so than men?

Men have supported Ron Paul more than women have. That is true from poll to poll. 62/37 is about average. You'll also notice that we have the most support with 18-29, 2nd most with 30-45, etc. This too is the way it is in most polls.

Our base is young males who aren't solid republicans, who don't always vote.

Too close for comfort. Santorum's rise is proof that some of the MSM's arrogance is founded. They DO have an influence on a significant level of the population's vote. They fabricated his rise out of thin air. But this will make the victory all the sweeter if we win :)

No, Gingrich has lost more than Santorum has in total. Did you expect that our attacks on Gingrich were going to cause Gingrich voters to go to Paul? Typically, it doesn't work that way. The attacker can hurt the attackee, but typically doesn't get his votes, at least not immediately.

There are a lot of social conservatives in Iowa. Rick Santorum is a social conservative. Likely the purest social conservative in Iowa. It's not surprising that Santorum is popular in Iowa.

Santorum, also, was not the flavor of the month. He didn't get any boost in the polls, but all the flavors all crashed. People aren't likely to rush back to the flavor they tasted and ended up not liking.

All of this is fairly obvious. The msm does not like Santorum, and for that reason it was possible that Santorum wouldn't be a flavor at all.

The Vander Platts endorsement made a difference as well. He is an important evangelical leader in Iowa.

None of that would be mystifying, or surprising. It's anticipated. And also, good for us.

Talking in generalizations now, it is also somewhat true that more women want a 'safety net' and things with big changes to be fully defined and planned. There is a motherly instinct to it all, and not saying it is right or wrong, but it is a natural element to combat when talking about liberty to chose, even if something stupid.

Political correctness was beaten, but musical tastes were afflicted. I can't stop playing her Stronger album. Need help!

Yea, well. Ive been doing all i can for months (converting people, pfh, donated several times), and it's just depressing to see what the establishment is doing to hijack it all. If the media and the gop insiders could just mind their own damn business, it is obvious who would be running away with this right now.

And yea, i know he is still in it, i just didnt really expect him to drop like that and have a decent portion of his most popular base haul ass like this. A win is a win, yea, but most here will agree that a win by 8-10% is what we needed to make a bold statement. Winning by 1-2%, while nice, is going to just add to even more discrediting, and actually help Romney more. Theyll all be like 'Paul barely edges Romney! Romney hot, heading into NH!!' This is what was trying to be avoided.
2007: Ron Paul who?
2011: Ron Paul wins by only 1-2%.

I like that liberty trend.

I doubt this poll is accurate. Its basically implying Ron Paul lost some votes to Santorum, which is physically impossible. Besides Perry, Santorum is the dumbest candidate. I doubt that excites many people.

I dunno, i know while most of rons support are core believers who wont switch ever, this recent surge probably bought him some soft support, which like everyone else, has the tendency to be fickle.

Yeah he worked so hard in Iowa that 5 days ago he was polling in single digits. It took a fake CNN poll to get mindless sheeple lined up behind him. Ooofff he must be tired from all that hard work.

Seems like we're all ready to dismiss Santorum. Let's wait for the actual voting, hope our Iowa support is as enthusiastic as we think it is, and then move on to the next state. If Santorum does well in Iowa, good for him. (But bad for the US.) He worked hard in Iowa. Dismissing his success just because we disagree with him on policy would be akin to all those "If Paul wins, then Iowa means nothing" comments.
