The Republican Jewish Coalition — facing the loss of its leading champion and tensions within the GOP — is planning an aggressive push in 2015 to enforce the hawkish pro-Israel consensus it helped build within the party over the past two decades.

The RJC will gather Tuesday evening for a reception at a Washington steakhouse where some of the party’s most generous Jewish donors — including Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson — will celebrate the incoming Senate majority and fete their most influential allies. Expected attendees include Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, John McCain of Arizona and Rob Portman of Ohio, as well as former Vice President Dick Cheney.

In addition to concerns about the Obama administration’s negotiations with Iran, Republicans face a persistent strain of non-interventionism within their own party — personified by prospective 2016 presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

He is an ally, except for the fact he is running for President. He has made no secret that he is his own man and foreign policy is where he differs the most. I would rather Sheldon Adelson give money to Cruz than Christie, Bush, or Romney because the establishment may be more scared by Cruz and defect to him. Also Cruz is the least electable candidate and will never win outside of the deep south/plain states if he can even get past New Hampshire.

Names worth remembering. Most are keyed in to Cotton, but McCainbot Mk. II will need a Lindsey to play with. I wonder if Mike Rounds has an effeminate lisp?

American Jews are significantly less "pro-Israel" than the average American. It is protestant/evangelical Christians who are the ones supporting Israel the most.

"Pro-Israel" donors should have no problem supporting Rand. Rand is not anti-Israel. Rand is a fiscal conservative, unlike most of the other crony establishment candidates, who love big government handouts for everyone. Rand is probably the only candidate that would, as POTUS, veto pork filled bills like the Cromnibus.

It should be noted that Rand has already hired a member of the Ted Cruz team, which infers a pro-Israel stance. The leftist media will ignore steps like that and continue to attack Rand, but it should be obvious to those on the constitutional conservative side that Rand is by no means "anti-Israel". It's the leftist-media and their crony corporatist friends who may not like Rand. Think about it, Rand is the only candidate who might actually reduce their big crony government gravy train.

I wish that were true. And maybe, you are right. Numerous people at that Adelson confab early last year said their express goal was take Rand out if he became a threat and they would spend any amount of money to do it.

Rand is now scheduled to speak at that Republican Jewish Coalition event tomorrow in front of people like Adelson, Cheney and John Bolton. I'll be curious to hear how that goes.
