Diebold machines don't read write-ins. I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as wasting your vote, but I'm sorry, a write-in is wasting your vote, simply because it will not be counted. Writing "Ron Paul" on your hand will accomplish the same thing.
I don't disagree with your sentiments. However, the typical procedure regarding write-ins is that only officially recognized write-ins are counted. State laws vary as to what is an officially recognized write-in, and typically there is a process which must be followed, beginning a few to many months prior to the election, in order to "register" a write-in candidate.
If those procedures are not followed, or if you fail to complete the process for whatever reasons, the write-ins for Paul wouldn't be counted, just as write-ins for Mickey Mouse don't count.
As long as McCain isn't the GOP nominee, Ron Paul will get my vote.
