Pic of the McCain aftermath on the USS Forrestal

Is it possible for the son of an admiral to get less than a C-?

I wish I had the YouTube of McCain when he said he wished he had finished even lower - as in 899 out of 899 . . .

The midshipmen have a tradition at graduation of the last in the class getting to shake the President's hand.

McCain should instead of regretting he didn't get to shake Ike's hand , could try reading some of Eisenhower . . .

http://www.betterworldheroes.com/eisenhower-quotes.htm

"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility and its stupidity. " - Dwight D. Eisenhower

"When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war.
War settles nothing. "
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

I hate to pop your bubble, but I was on the oriskany, two miles away when that fire started. All the reports at that time pointed to the accidental firing of a missile, which hit McCain's aircraft. I have never read or heard of any reports to the contrary.

A fire at sea is nothing to laugh at.... Aircraft carriers are especially dangerous. The Oriskany lost 144 men to a fire the previous year.

To claim that a pilot would intentionally fire his missile on a crowded flight desk is simply unbelievable.

+1000

Fellow sailor here, and you're right...I tried to explain, with facts, how preposterous this story is in a pm to the op, but I'm afraid it fell on deaf ears.

McCain hit his afterburner with an aircraft right behind him. The pilot of that aircraft didn't like him any more than we do. A missile came off that aircraft, officially accidentally, and hit McCain's aircraft. McCain's aircraft dropped it's ordinance on the deck of the ship and McCain bailed.

That is just plain BULLSHIT, my friend....THERE ARE NO AFTERBURNERS ON A-4 SKYHAWKS!!!!!!

I heard on the radio that McCain did what was called a "wet start" of the engine, which to my amateur understanding, meant that fuel was pumped into the combustion chamber of the engine without igniting it right then, then when somewhat flooded, it was ignited which produced a fireball behind the jet. It was something that the jet jocks did as a prank. That somehow caused a missile from behind McCain to launch -- whether from some defect in the missile launch system, or from a startled reaction of a human, or whatever.

The point being, that if McCain hadn't been jerking around, the accident wouldn't have occurred. The program also stated that there wasn't much doubt about the fault by the crew.... McCain was evacuated with the wounded in a forced immediate transfer even though any wounds he might have had were minor. Probably done to keep the crew from tearing him apart.

w00ter

Yet another bullshit flag must be thrown!!! The ROCKET, NOT A MISSLE, came from an F-4 Phantom forward of McCain's plane!!!!!!!!!!!! The rocket was inadvertently launched by stray voltage in the wiring. Even if McCain did a wet start, it would not have ignited the fuel in the plane behind him UNLESS the fuel had ALREADY BEEN SPILLED ON THE DECK. Damn there are some ignorant people here.

Absolutely POSITIVE - "Johnny" McCain was and still is a jerk -

The R-AZZ Senator is no American hero -
just an 894th out of 899 in his graduating class C- student at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

You can pretend he's a top gun - but everyone knew him as a fool -
and McCain crashed a plane into Corpus Christi Bay off the coast of Texas while trying to land once as well.

Watch the film /videotape of the start of the accident on the USS Forrestal carrier deck if you get the chance . . .
it's a bloody disgrace.

Who's pretending McCain is a top gun or a hero here???? The man is a moron, and we all know it. However I don't have an agenda to spread BULLSHIT about somebody when I know it is a bald faced lie. I hate McCain as much as anybody, but I also have a brain in my head, perosnal integrity, AND experiance on flight decks in the Navy...but, I'm sure that doesn't mean much to you while you're taking orders at McDonalds though....

really bad logic Hook -

McCain was messing around regardless of what he was doing -

I think it was something else than afterburners yeah - back jet wash or something -

hius engines xccaught on fire - he didn't do an inspection around the plane or something - and we he started it up
McCain's plane caught fire first by itself because he f'd up - the rocket fired across after wards.

get it Hook ?
or are you still in denial as to the pilot who caused
the parked plane disaster on the USS Forrestal in July of 1967 ?

MORON, YOUR BUS IS LEAVING. I am now convinced that you are a teenager, and have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You're NOT a veteran, you're NOT in the military, and you're NOT finished with high shcool, if you even gotten that far. Have you donned your tin-foil hat yet?

Who's pretending McCain is a top gun . . .????

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in a fundraiser the night before the Iowa county conventions which were held last Saturday explained to the audience at the University Athletic Club - which included young college Republicans from the UIowa - that John McCain was like Pete "Maverick" a real "Top Gun" -

It is a bad comparison.

A contentious debate occurred at the county convention the following day - last Saturday - when the issues of the platform propoised by young college Republicans were snuffed out by the GOP elite. Overall, we did better than anyone anticipated with delegates to the state convention in June.

Plenty of us in Iowa are in the pipeline for the national convention - at least so far - but people need to learn about McCain.

The more ya' know about McLame - the less you have the desire to salute him as a suitable Commander-in-Chief.

Our grassroots efforts in Iowa as we try to get more delegates includes posting the truth about McCain.

And if the mods want to move posts to twart our grassroots efforts in Iowa that is their prerogative to the detriment of our efforts to seat more delegates from Iowa for the roll call on the evening of September 3, 2008 in Minneapolis.

Well, rather interesting arguments...

With no dis-respect to McCain, due to the fact he actually flew those jets...

Can we get someone to ask his views of what really happened?

We can put this all to rest, and see if his temper gets the best of him...
