I can understand the dilemmas and even angst that many experience when dealing with issues of privilege. Everyone experiences it. Some more than others. It would be especially difficult with an institution like marriage because it is so entrenched. I can understand how people would scoff at liberty proposals suggesting that government disconnect from the institution altogether. It is much more practical, some argue, to join 'em rather than trying to beat 'em.

If you want to take an opportunity, then so be it. Don't however, act so high and mighty as to call people ignorant just because they don't always choose the path of least resistance. Some people do aspire to loftier goals. They certainly do not disingenuously muddle and mix the meanings of rights and privileges to secure something they deem of lesser value.

And by the way, don't lecture me about my disposition toward gay people. I have a close gay family member, had a gay boss, worked in a place where half the staff was gay, etc. I have observed more than my share of family angst.
