One more thing about the PL/PF people

Agreed. We can use our freedom to be grungy, after we get Ron Paul in. Does he ever look grungy? Gotta follow his example in the public eye. I do not like judging a book by its cover either. I fight against it constantly. But, we are dealing with people here who do not think like us. We can't get to them, unless we come down to their level in the beginning, and dressing the part is the first foot in the door.

I have a relative who does this. She's Pentecostal.

Yes, it's typically only Pentacostal's. The "Evangelicals" that the media is talking about and that Huckabee is taking in droves are not specifically Pentacostal's. Growing up, homeschooled especially... we could always tell who the Pentacostal's were, but they barely made up 10% of our groups, if that. (I grew up in Baton Rouge)

Yes, I grew up in Texas. I know exactly what you're saying. My Pentecostal relative is from Alabama.

Do I know you?

Its not just pentecostals who dress that way. I was raised crazy catholic and homeschooled and I was forced to dress that way. A lot of the people at my church in Baton Rouge dressed that way.

I had on jeans and tucked in a long sleeved button up shirt. At the Kenner location we had several people in suits, and other dressed with khakis. Half of us dressed up and half didn't. The half that didn't, did not really stay around too long either.

I think Pushy Paulers turned off a lot of people too. There was at least 4 times I was politely gaining interest in Dr. Paul, a fellow supporter would interrupt with "you know what the IRS is, Ron Paul will abolish it." We hurt ourselves. I tried to remain polite and not throw the big picture goals, but the getting on the right path putting America First goal. The lady would interrupt and sometimes 2 other guys would throw something in. One RP supporter talking to One person or else they feel attacked. I could see it in their faces.

Definitely. I saw this happen too.

They were all dressed very professionally, suits, ties, clean cut, etc. I had been working so hard I was dressed in just pants and a long-sleeve t-shirt type of top. Most of the RP people were dressed in jeans and RP shirts, etc.

I think as a constructive criticism for the next caucuses/primaries in other states.... they LOOKED like they out-classed us. They LOOKED like church-going people... they LOOKED like they had good jobs, etc.

We LOOKED messy. (I'm sorry to say it but it has been bothering me since last night... this is something we SHOULD have anticipated).

I have exceptionally nice dress clothes and I should have worn them. I really think it made a difference with a few votes.

That's just my impression.... anyone else feel free to counter. I'm not saying I'm right... I'm just saying I noticed the diffence last night.

Unfortunately, if we're going to beat them at their own game, we're going to have to play by some of their rules.

I'd wear a suit and tie if it would help win votes.

I have to wear a suit and tie every day at work... though I'm self employed it is what people expect of me, and the reality is that most folks wouldn't care but some clearly would, and so it's better for my business if I wear a suit and tie and dress the part, even if I feel I put a chain around my neck every morning when I tie my tie. I will continue to 'dress the part' as I try to get votes in my neighborhood though I'd much rather wear casual clothes.
And on super Tuesday I know I have to dress like I'm at work.
Everyone should try to 'look the part' best they can.
Remember the goal is votes/delegates, not making a point about how people shouldn't judge what you wear, etc. I agree that one shouldn't be judged by appearance, race, religion etc, but people do make 1st impressions all the time based on these factors.

Signed, the guy who cut off 7 years' length of hair.
I only have about 2 or 3 years' length, but when I go out politickin' it's neatly pony-tailed back, and I wear nice slacks and dressy shirt (no tie) and depending on the temperature, a nice sport coat. I look respectable that way... I know because I've done a lot of business with very conservative people for years and have headed up a local real estate club etc. I can get away with a little hair, but that doesn't mean anyone can. To each their own to present themselves in the most Ron Paul Professional way they can.

Can you imagine Ron Paul in jeans at tomorrow's debate?

Neither can I.

Great point!

I was dressed nice :)
I always dress nice for political functions...
the one time I didn't... my picture ended up in the paper as a candidate and I didn't look professional, so ever since then... I always dress for pictures.

all appearance instead of substance?
appearance matters?

I have spent more than 50 years detesting suits, ties and those who wear them.
Appearance is huge. It's the first impression you make to a person.

Here's an easy example (for guys): when you see a girl, the first thing you notice is how she looks. If she's cute, you're more likely to be interested in finding out about her. If she doesn't take care of herself and looks like a slob, chances are you won't be interested in finding out who she really is in the first place.

Though Jen has a point... i didn't think our people stood out in a bad manner. And i don't think it had any impact on the vote that night.

I think I speak for all college kids when I went there in a polo shirt and jeans and that should be totally okay. I was probably 20 years younger than anyone in the Covington caucus. Attire shouldn't decide votes! (although it might in some cases)
