My thoughts on the debate tonight...

First off the debates are rigged in the fact that they plan who gets the most airtime and on what subjects. The hosts plan out and practice the debates just as much as the candidates do. They have flow charts and produces in their ears calling the shots. I worked one of the 2012 debate spin rooms.

Secondly it was very clear Fox was trying to make this a Mike Pence infomercial. He is cardboard and sounds like a crotchety old man with no new ideas and he didn't do much during his time in office.

Third there was a bit more substance and contrast on some issues than they usually do.

I'm glad Haley he called out Republicans on spending and starting the current round of inflation... Too bad she is an anti gun progressive neocon hack who is also a climate change alarmist.

Vivek seems intriguing and I would like to learn more about him because he is a breath of fresh air. Glad someone had the guts to admit that we're in a cold civil war and take a stand against foreign adventurism. Although interestingly it was pointed out to me that he was a Soros scholarship recipient a few years back which will require some research.

Christie needs to roll back to NJ

DeSantis was good until he said he wanted to illegally invade Mexico. He passed the largest sales tax hike in the history of the state, refused to demand open carry, and didn't lift a finger to help conservative candidates last cycle. He also hasn't taken a position on red flag gun confiscation laws. He has been good on CBDC and gave a good answer on Ukraine.

ND Gov Burgham invoked 10th Amendment, which is great and should have been done by more up there.

Why does Arkansas produce awful Governors?

In the end the federal government will continue to grow regardless of who the next President is. The federal government is unable to be reformed and is a lost cause. All we can hope to do is to slow down the rate of decline and make it as painless as possible. Specifically working on the state and local levels to limit and restrain government.

He certainly is.

The disruption of Trump without the abrasiveness and divisiveness.

Vivek is thoughtful, intelligent and well-spoken.

He held his own in the debate, but I couldn't help thinking he looked a little bit like a youngster playing in the adult sandbox. Maybe VP is the way to go....

Starting to see social media comments about Vivek wanting to double down on the drug war, and create a massive inheritance tax. This guy has potential but needs some investigation for sure. I'm hearing his book and political rhetoric up until recently were very bad, but again, I haven't looked into it myself. I would like to like this guy.

I got very interested only about a week ago. Been watching a lot of vids on YouTube, mostly. Yesterday sprang for a couple of T-shirts lol

Doubling down on the drug war is new to me... Haven't heard anything about it. Got link?

The inheritance tax deal is in a thread around here somewhere... I'll see if I can put my hands on it. I'm pretty sure that was a shot from the hip that he wishes he could take back lol

For anyone here intrigued about Vivek, this is the best interview with him. He even mentions why he doesn't call himself a libertarian anymore.

Vivek, in a "thought experiment", says it would be better to get rid of the income tax (or reduce down to almost nothing) in trade for an increase on the inheritance tax.. nothing about collecting the same amount of money, it would be far less money to government. It's not a policy he plants to push, just something he was noodling around on.

Pretty sure Vivek is for fully legalizing cannabis and has no desire to fight the drug war - with the exception of the fentanyl coming over the border. Although not 100% sure about his position on meth, cocaine, etc.. But keep in mind, he was one of us in 2007, a huge Ron Paul supporter. 2007 was the year he graduated college. Ron Paul also interviewed him recently.

There's a bunch of stuff in the Vivek thread on here, a couple people here think he is a phony because he owns a pharma company. There is a bunch of fake bullet points that are negative about him, I've seen so many of them debunked, I don't currently know of anything, for certain, that would give me pause to support him.

LOL sounds about right with the spreading of FUD against a new candidate.... I am interested to know about Vivek in 07 and 2012. Was he a volunteer, donor, etc for Ron?
