**OFFICIAL** BASEBALL THREAD

The Cincinnati Reds play by play guy is the worst.

I've just watched 3 pitches go by, several attempts at first, and not a peep out of him. It's like listening to dead air.

I dunno.... Hawk Harrelson (sp?) of the White Sox is the absolute worst. Even just hearing his voice on recap footage on the MLB network is enough to make me want to punch my tv screen... if i never heard another "streeeeetch.... streeeeeeetch... you can it on the board.. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees" I would be a happy man. I would also add that while I am an obvious O's fanatic... Mike Bordick has no business in the broadcast booth.

Baltimore is a really scrappy team. Showalter is the right coach, now they just need to fill the dugout with some talent and build off a strong bullpen by developing better starting pitching and hitting with RISP.

Despite there record, I have never taken this team for granted. They are in the absolute most talented division in all of sports. That being said, the Rays are obviously my team. Growing up in Tampa under the shadow of the Yankees, I am pleased to predict that this year they will take back the AL East crown on the strength of team chemistry, welcome back Carlos Pena, and probably the most consistent starting rotation in baseball. Another year for the likes of Matt Joyce, Desmond Jennings (more raw talent than Carl Crawford), Sean Rodriguez. Longoria slumped last year, but Zobrist stepped up to all star status and solidified his role on the team. We'll need someone to step up a catch, and does BJ Upton finally break out?

So excited for this season after the awesome chase from behind last year. I definitely see the Rays in the playoffs this year and with the extra wild card, who knows what can happen with teams of the verge like I believe Baltimore AND Toronto in the AL East are.

It's going to be an awesome season@!

Jennings and Hellickson are beasts.

A touching moment expected in Baltimore tonight as Brian Roberts will be stepping to the plate for the first time in over a year and one of the fear times in the past two seasons. He suffered two concussions which have kept him out of active baseball and many believed that he may never play again. I expect a standing ovation for the homegrown Roberts. GO O'S

I might get excited if San Diego had a team. I don't think I could name a single player this year if somebody asked me. They rented some high priced talent to get to the playoffs (and World Series) in 1998 to get a stadium built (which is a nice one) but haven't put the money into the team since. Maybe the expected change in ownership will help? (Two groups with local stars are competing to buy a share of the team- one with the legendary Tony Gwinn (who is facing some tax issues right now too) and one with golf champion Phil Michelson on it. Team is battting a league worst .188 with runners in scoring position and has the worst record.

I think the American League should just scrap fielding altogether. Make each game a homerun derby. And between each inning there should be laser light show. Boobus loves lasers.

Or, you know, the national league can teach their pitchers to HIT THE BALL. I'm an SF Giants fan by the way. But DH is way better than having a .075 batting average in your lineup.

It's so artificial to have some fat old dude hit for them. But i'm not surprised it floats in a culture of sugar addicts.

btw, only AL pitchers bat .075.

But you get my point. There is rarely a pitcher who can hit .200 and I remember plenty of NL pitchers that hit under .150

It's not that rare. I bet most clubs have a pitcher batting over .200.

Anyway, it's not the point. It's artificial to have a DH. It ruins the strategy. There's no small ball. No pinch hitting.

Actually I'd love to combine the two. DH + small ball.
