**OFFICIAL** BASEBALL THREAD

My team made it to .500 for the first time yesterday , got the Indians next ,I think ...

O's vs Rays right now. 1st place in the AL East on the line. This should be a great series. Think I might grab a ticket for tomorrow night.

As I type, Rays open up a 5-0 1st inning lead. GO RAYS!

jays enjoyed the orioles last series playn red sox now ... go blue birds ! ( watch that guy on 3rd for j's )

It would not shock me to see the Rays O's and Jays all in the playoffs this year. It might be more of a stretch than the Rays Yanks and Jays or Orioles, but I definitely see a good possibility of all 4 of those teams fighting for the EAST and the 2 AL wild cards.

I'm an O's fan, and I've seen this far too often in the last 14 years. The O's were fun to watch for a while, but in the past week they look like the same team that's endured 14 straight losing seasons: no starting pitching, multiple regulars in extended slumps, no clutch hitting to speak of, and more fielding errors than you can shake a stick at.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Tampa, New York, and Toronto go from the East. Or maybe the Central gets two teams (Sox, Tigers) because the East is going to beat itself up all season.

That's a really tough division, I'm still surprised the Rays (for example) ever started winning. The O's will be good someday, but when?

What will happen next?

  • Tigers are a big surprise this year, on the down side, and the White Sox are suddenly winning every day for 2 straight weeks.
  • Can the Angels climb way above .500 after a bad start?
  • There are currently 7 teams >= 9 games out, will a single one of those get back in the race?
  • How long can every team in two different divisions stay above .500?

Whenever they get a top-of-rotation arm and a couple innings-eaters in the middle of the rotation that can throw 200 IP+ of ~4.00 ERA or less. Their offense is competitive already (the O's lead the league in HR this year).

Being a Baltimore/DC sports fan is the least rewarding experience I can think of. :p

You have to give tons of credit to the Rays front office, and scouting department. 10 years of being the worse team in baseball gave the Rays 1st choice of young talent for a long time. The scouts and personnel department have been amazing. The Yanks and Bo Sox have sacrificed the future because of the great pressure to win NOW. If you notice, everyone seems to thrive in the Rays organization, and once they leave the Rays, they turn mediocre (a few exceptions of course, Josh Hamilton being the most notable). It's really a credit to the team building that starts from the top down.

The Yanks and Sox were getting old 5 years ago, and the Rays haven't even started peaking yet. Look at Price on the mound tonight. They guy is a Cy Young pitcher. He will be in the Hall of Fame one day as long as he stays healthy.

The O's are really cut from the same mold. I think Showalter is the big difference. Look what he did for the Yanks when the Yanks sucked in the early 90's. Look what he did with the expansion Diamond backs in 99.

You guys have some pieces and I really think this season is a turn around season for them. Same with the Jays. I look forward to a decade of watching Boston and New York fight to stay off the bottom of the pile :)

Tonight (6/1/12), new Detroit rookie pitcher Crosby walks 4 then gives up a grand slam against NY.

Ouch.

IDK, but that's gotta be one of the worst debuts of a rookie pitcher ever.

I still have some faith in the O's but apparently they don't because they just sent in Captain Chaos (a.k.a. Kevin Gregg)
