NY Post apologizes over Obama cartoon

they should have made the monkey the shape into a bill, in the form of a monkey but a bill.

Seeing the illustration, I see how it could be taken both ways.

However. . . how many times do people say things like "it's so easy even a monkey could do it!"??

Or when you look at something that's poorly written, you say something like "this looks like it could have been written by a monkey"?

Sure, I've heard the derogatory comparison before. . . but seriously. . .

Throughout the Obama campaign, people debated whether or not it was the right time for an African American to be elected. Has everyone forgotten that he's also half Caucasian? Has everyone forgotten that he was raised by Caucasian relatives? So, logically, if the monkey symbolizes Obama (and it doesn't), it would represent 1/2 of him?

What's the big deal about skin color? I, personally, don't understand why America continues to be divided when it comes to race. Eventually, hundreds of years down the road, everyone in America will end up being some shade of "Tan" and everyone will be 1/8 this and 1/4 of that. So why should we even separate ourselves by choice? No one is forcing us to segregate ourselves.

Regardless of the NAACP, the image is there for everyone to see still. It doesn't change the intent or the content of the image. At this point, they're just looking for things to pick at. Honestly, it's almost comical. Besides, distracting people with "race debates" will keep people from seeing the real problems, right?

I doubt it was intended as a racist cartoon, but I can see why people misinterpret it as such, given the age-old racist comparison between black people and apes. I mean seriously, how many people did the cartoon have to go through who didn't see this reaction coming? Then again, maybe we can take their oversight to be a good sign of progress, since what we need in this climate is for more people to stop thinking in terms of race.

Nice, the tards at Huffington Post removed my reply to that jackass Earl Hutchinson. Can't have any form of dissent from the serfs can we? Assholes.

It would have made more sense if it were more than one monkey being shot, but then again animal activists would probably get pissed about the voilence portrayed against chimps... you simply cannot not offend someone. Was it racist? I doubt it, it was merely a slight against Obama (if that, and not Congress), not a race/collective as a whole.

I think the author very well may have been stupid enough to not notice the hillariously obvious racial impliccations of that cartoon

so true. . . .

Why did the OP refer to it as "the Obama cartoon"?

wtf?

The intent was to paint it as racist and to stir up trouble.
It is called "Playing the race Card".

It is an attempt to focus attention on the Puppet Obama rather than those that are pulling his strings.

They did it to sell newspapers. Look at all the publicity it has gotten while newspapers are struggling. Which of the zillion New York papers to buy if you are a New Yorker - how about that whacky NY Post and see what they are up to?
