I just read that someone's brother who was awaiting surgery for a knee problem at the VA had his case post-poned/canceled on account of the shutdown. That kind of sucks.

Just got back from running an errand. There were NO, I repeat NO, perfectly good roads being torn up and paved again. I almost got lost because I didn't have any detour signs to follow .

Funny you say that. The State road that runs in front of my house WAS smooth, quiet, and nice to drive on...that is until the STATE dot re-pavers came through with a road eating machine. They chewed up the top 1 inch, then they poured tar, followed by a light pouring of road gravel. The once smooth and quiet road in front of my house is so loud that now you can hear cars coming 2 miles down the road. I was pissed when I saw the machine, I knew what was in store.

Have not been within sight of the Statue; I can report, however, that the bull statue on Wall Street has fallen over onto its side.
