Cory Booker, America's favorite mayor and occasional superhero, is preparing to live for a week or more on food stamps—if his challenge to a Twitter user is accepted.

The challenge came when the Newark mayor got into a tête-à-tête on Twitter about the role of government in funding food programs for schoolchildren.

"We have a shared responsibility that kids go to school nutritionally ready," Booker wrote on Sunday after a follower tweeted nutrition "is not a responsibility of the government."

Booker—who said last week that superstorm Sandy prompted him to postpone his decision to run for New Jersey governor against Chris Christie—then responded to a tweet from another follower who doubted there are families "'too poor' to afford breakfast."

"[Let's] you and I try to live on food stamps in New Jersey (high cost of living) and feed a family for a week or month," the mayor wrote. "U game?"

The user, "TwitWit," replied, "Sure, Mayor, I'm game."

"Great. Let's do this," Booker wrote. "I hope you live in New Jersey. Let's film it and see how we do."

Booker added that they would have to get a referee.

food stamps are $100 a month per person, its not that difficult if they are talking ramon noodles and water.

Wouldn't be that hard and you wouldn't need to live off Ramen noodles every day.

Cory Booker, America's favorite mayor and occasional superhero,

Never heard of him.

What exactly would this prove, anyway? The mayor will undoubtedly conclude that the current food-stamp amount is not enough to live on and therefore we should increase food-stamps.

The twitter challenger will probably strive to make a budget and hunt for the best deals and show prudence with money, and of course by doing this, he'll be in the minority as most americans these days do not understand anything about budgeting, so they'll probably just look at him like he's nuts, unfortunately.

That'd be a nice increase in my food budget! And you can do way better than ramen and water. Do you have an Aldi around you? Those places are the shit. This week the had Dole Russeert Idaho potatoes, 10lb bag, $.99!!! Thanksgiving sale and what not. But the produce is super cheap. Same with milk, butter, eggs, etc. Their meat is low/lower quality, but I get that from the local butcher.

How do I get a SNAP card loaded with Bernanke Bucks?

This guy is one of the few "rising stars" of the left. He will be running for president in no time.

Corey Booker is actually somewhat reasonable compared to his democratic peers, but if he wants to truly combat hunger, he needs to look at the rising impact of inflation on food production.

So uhm, where are they going to get these foodstamps? Or course, I wouldn't be all too surprised if booker already had a fully loaded EBT card in his pocket.

To air and deny this way around.

Edit: You know what, I'm leaving it. As a warning to not sleep post. Lol.

I meant to say something about foodstamps being $200 for one person.

I think to be effective when hunting it would also have to consider the cost of travel to effectively shop around, which sort of negates the deals found in most areas...

Isn't there a flaw in the challenge? I'm sure most people don't depend on food stamps alone.
