New CNN Poll, Rand tied for 7th at 3%

Is that the way they posted the results? Because in my math logic, Paul at 3 should be listed before Kasich at 2 and Christie at 2.

that was how it was, and continues to be posted on realclearpolitics

Some people on here need a reality check. There is no conspiracy against Rand in the polls. He is going down hard and heading to one percent right beside Lindsay Graham because he is running a horrible uninspiring campaign.

what will cause the Trump (and Carson) thing to be over?

When the media and those who influence elections decide it is over. There is more than enough dirty business and bimbos to take Trump down. They are being held back for now. Carson is too naive and gullible. A few good leading questions and he will say something stupid and his campaign is over.

I think both will be shot down in the month before the IA caucus and all of a sudden Jeb will "be surging" so all the boobus want to hitch onto the Jeb train.

There is no conspiracy. He's just not doing well in a media and moment driven race where he has little media has had no moments. If he pulled something big in the senate or had a good quote in the media or at a debate, he could rise up quick again. I don't think Rand will win this though. Maybe just have a decent setup for next time.

Despite disappointing polling numbers this summer, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., the libertarian-minded presidential candidate, said organizing continues in all 50 states, and he’s “all in” for a campaign long past the highly watched early voting states.

Paul’s comments came Thursday afternoon in a phone interview with the Iowa State Daily. He said frontrunner Donald Trump’s popularity is solely based on his “celebrity” status and completely dismissed polling showing him well behind the frontrunner.

“I think there is some celebrity distortion in the polls, but still when you ask people in most of these polls, ‘Have you decided who you’re voting for?’ two-thirds of people say no,” Paul said. “Then they ask you to go ahead and pick, even though you’re [undecided]. It’s really kind of a poll of leaners, and it’s really influenced greatly by celebrity.”

Throughout the summer, Paul was considered a top-tier candidate and often polled in the double digits, but his support has fallen considerably following the entrance of Trump in the race. A CNN/ORC poll released Thursday showed Paul with support from 3 percent of likely Republican caucus goers, while Trump led the poll with 32 percent.

The poll was conducted last week by phone with a sample of 1,012 adults. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percent.

Despite the Trump distraction, Paul said his campaign is focused on organizing efforts nationwide, including an upcoming campaign tour of college campuses.

“We now have 300 college campuses that are organized around the country, we’re organized in all 50 states and we have 15 schools organized in Iowa,” Paul said. “We plan on working hard to register voters and get young people out.”

Paul will participate in the Presidential Caucus Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union.

Paul also discussed several news items currently being debated in Congress, his policy proposals on education and his prediction for this weekend's Cy-Hawk game in Ames.

I am baffled by Carson's appeal. He's soft-spoken, and often nonsensical. He doesn't seem to have gotten a ton of media coverage or much time in the first debate. Yet, he climbs?

He has positioned himself extremely well as the anti-establishment candidate for people who find Trump too much of a jerk on a personal level. This isn't really so much a testament to Carson's political skills as it is the gross incompetence of all the other candidates.

I agree with you about them planning to have Bush surge last, but if he's too damaged by then, I'm expecting a big Rubio push.

I agree too. It's reminiscent of John Kerry. He was the establishment anointee for the Democrats all along in 1996. The Howard Dean phenomenon fizzled out just in time for the Iowa caucuses, when Democrats started getting more serious about the election, less emotion driven, and more drawn to Kerry's unbearable boringness. Something very similar could happen with Bush.

I'm waiting for a sleeper type move for Iowa, as I've heard again and again Rand has the best ground game there. I am also looking forward to a strong showing (top 4) in New Hampshire and Nevada as well, where my hopes are based on historical results and what I understand to be formidable organization.

It's SC that worries me, and I'm wondering what can be done to push there sooner than later other than hoping for performance to carry over in the 1st two.

Also - March is where the craziness begins and where I believe the campaigns are going to have to spend spend spend in order to gain/keep any momentum, and that money is going to have to be there and any/all plans to be enacted should be lined up and ready to go ASAP as well.

Rand is trying so hard to appeal to "mainstream" GOP voters, that he completely forgot the people who backed his father (and helped get him into the Senate).

Rand just seems to be "GOP business as usual- Lite/kinda sorta sometimes libertarian."

I don't think that will win him the nomination.
