ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In response to John McCain’s comment at a recent town hall event that he would be fine with keeping American troops in Iraq for 100 – or even 1 million years – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“John McCain’s statement in favor of keeping troops in Iraq for 100 years or longer puts him out of sync with the majority of Americans, who want our troops to come home. Further, his comments recklessly put America at risk as such a statement will likely serve as a recruiting tool for Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, who appeal to radicals and incite violence against Americans by claiming that the US desires to occupy the Middle East indefinitely.

“It is time to act in the true national security interest of the United States and begin withdrawal from Iraq and the rest of the Middle East immediately. Americans will be far safer under a pro-America foreign policy that seeks to end the dangerous idea that the US should be the policeman of the world.

“Further, the financial costs of keeping troops in Iraq for a century would be massive – in addition to the steep price in American lives. If John McCain really wants such a long term presence, he needs to level with the American people and tell them that his policy means we will not be able to fulfill our obligations here at home.”

According to quarterly FEC reports, Dr. Ron Paul is supported by more active duty and retired military retirees than any other candidate to be the next commander in chief. An investigation by the Houston Chronicle revealed that Congressman Paul received “more donations from current military…and retired military…than any other candidate.”

This type of ignorance scares me. She bases her vote of poll numbers? Wow, and McCain bring the troops home? WHAT! He said he wants the troops in the Middle East for another 100 years!

Many of us have been saying this for months. The masses ( "they" ) are more like this lady than you think! They don't want to do research. They don't want to learn. They don't want to be bothered. They want entertainment... we won't get them to sit though an 8 minute video and, if they do, they won't pay attention!

This is why I believe excessive or redundant advertising can sometimes hurt an effort.

I cant say it enough, go back tonight and say you have been canvassing for Paul and you didnt want to leave without canvassing your building or houses etc. then print out what mccain SAID, then follow up with Ron Paul...

I don't know how McCain is doing it....but he is. His supporters in New Hampshire are "scared" by Mitt, Huckabee, and Guiliani's warmongering demeanor and they somehow believe that McCain is not like them. Either people are really dumb or McCain is the Pied Piper of New Hampshire.

NPR interviews voters all the time.....I listen to it all day and this is what McCain supporters in New Hampshire are basically saying. "McCain is honest. The others are scary with their pre-emptive war rhetoric."
It must be a carryover from McCain's last run for President in 2000. That is the only explanation I can fathom. It is sad indeed.

Was just talking to my landlord and I asked her who she supports.She said Mcain.
So I asked why.Her answer totally stumped me.

"Because hes the only republican who wants to bring the troops home"

don't take her words too seriously. she probably decided to vote for mccain for some other reason and then told you think because she thought that would convince you.

This is why we as the grassroots should have used more tactics for why not to vote for the mainstream candidates. That is how I've swayed everyone. Just look at any of them and you'll find 4-5 horrible positions for each of them on both the Democrat and Republican side. Negative convincing? whatever you want to call it works.

Yeah that's one of the problems when trying to convert people. You have to present it in such a way that it looks like they made up their own mind without them looking stupid. You just got to find a way to give her the fuel.
