Most surprising text I've ever gotten... (Motivational)

Some of you are overtly pessimistic, and seem unable to take a positive as a positive. This guy is my FATHER, he only agrees with Paul, he's liked Paul's stances on everything since 07, he was just stating he wants someone who can beat Romney and Obama. My father gets angry when he's unsure of something, most people do. However, oftentimes when he takes a calm look at it afterwards, he can see the logic, and come to terms with it. He's a very passionate person, and the thing he likes most about Paul is his foreign policy (He had the pleasure of cleaning his best friends remains up in Iraq).

Also, by "that will never happen" it was in reference to a Paul presidency. Perhaps I should have clarified more, but I was very happy at the time I posted this.

Don't push people away because they were reluctant, try embracing them because they finally took the step that was needed.

And he'd never tell me something like this, and then turn around and stab me in the back. He likes, and wants Ron Paul to win, he just needed to see that it was possible, and he does now.

And if you implied that he would turn on me, and the campaign, regardless of if you have a legitimate reasoning. I have to say "Fuck you", this is my dad.

Gingrinch doesn't even have full slates of delegates in many states. They should worry about their own slates first. This might be an issue where he's not on the ballot though - such as Virginia/Missouri.

Gingrich isn't on the primary ballot in Missouri, but that's irrelevant. Our primary is purely cosmetic - it awards NO delegates.

Missouri delegates will be apportioned at caucus in March - and Gingrich is as eligible for them as anyone else.

Feel free to refer to what I posted just prior to your post.

Your OP didn't come across that he was a supporter at all... It sounded like after 5 long hard years of talking with him, ending in a mad as hell conversation.. He got a call from the campaign because your donation had his name on it, and he switched to be a delegate.

Hope he is as stubborn in supporting NOBP now as he was in thinking RP couldn't win before :D

Its clarified. It has been 5 long years, but he's agreed with it all. Just didn't have faith a win was possible. He will be as stubborn I'm sure, it's his personality.

Ok maybe a better way of saying it would be: We just had an intense argument about Paul being able to win, I told him about delegates and that being important, and that Paul was striving for delegates to be the key, not the normal votes. The call ended and he was not convinced, a bit later the campaign called and mentioned delegates and explained the process, being something out of the blue after the conversation we just had, was the turning point that convinced my father there was a strategy and it just may work!
(note these are not my words and story, simply a re-telling of the story in other words, as first person)

I did, and I've edited my post accordingly.

That's hardly fair. You know your dad & how things are with him, but we didn't (until you told us). In post #21, you put things in a *VERY* different light than you did in your OP (yelling, "never happen," "mad as hell," etc.)

But after what you said in post #21, that's more than good enough for me. This is wonderful news. Thank you for sharing it (& clarifying).

(And you're very lucky - I love my dad, too, but I'm not sure I could trust him any further than I could throw him).

I like the part where you yelled at him. Should be more of that happening. Or else we are gonna have a nice little speech at the convention. Period. Time to get the voters attention. Politically correct is for the establishment.

The "Fuck you" was because I felt it was obligatory, I don't have any actual hard feelings about anything said, and can understand it. But, it's about my dad, so I felt I had to say it.

I agree. It is time for yelling, screaming, or getting emotional and telling people: "This entire economy will collapse and this country that we love will cease to exist if we don't elect Ron Paul!"

Been a supporter since 07, converted my mom and brother, and have been working on my dad the last 5 years. Last night I was talking to him, and he mentioned how he hates Romney, I was like "So vote for Ron Paul!", and he vehemently informed me that would never happen. He wants someone who can WIN! This turned into a very heated argument, both of us yelling, me trying to explain what a delegate is, him saying he'll go for Grinch, me saying that's stupid, and on and on. Eventually we both hung up mad as hell.

After work today, I checked my phone and found this message from him "I'm going to be a delegate for Ron Paul at the state convention in March. Just spoke with someone from the campaign." My response, miiiiight have been a little less than what it should of been "Holy shit Really?!?". Turns out, due to the fact that when I was 17 I use to give my dad money and have him donate for me, he's on their calling list. Just after our argument, they called, asked if he still supported Ron Paul. He told them "I'm definitely voting for him.", and they asked him to be a delegate.

My mind is absolutely blown, 5 years of calm conversation, and apparently we finally yell just in the nick of time.

That's divine intervention, sweetie. ;)

mother

Very nice story.

My dad became a supporter awhile ago, but my mother is a citizen of Great Britain and never really says anything about US politics. Today I went by my parents house to drop off some things and my mother said I have something to tell you. Today at work her co-worker Nancey, who is a die hard Republican, was telling her about how Romney won NH and won Florida last night. Was telling my mother how her and her husband hate how things are going with Obama and that they will be voting for Romney. She then asks my mother if she plans on voting unknowing that she can't vote. My mother told here that our entire family plans on voting and that we support Congressman Ron Paul from Texas. My mother said the look on Nancey's face was awesome. Nancey asked my mother why and to my surprise my mother had been taking in all the information since 2007. She told Nancey that we like Paul because he has been married for 54 years to the same wife, is a strict constitutionalists, and an honest statesman that will do his best for everyone. Nancey is now reconsidering her vote.

+1 my mum
