I'd actually put that in his favor: that he is being raised properly with attentive parents.

My kids did not have phones of their own until they were 18, that was 4 or 5 years ago now.

The instant and immediate "racialization" of such incidents prior to any clear evidence corroborating a racial motivation only serves to exacerbate the phenomenon and hastens the degradation of trust. It's just another symptom indicating the disease is already well-advanced.

For this, the homeowner, Andrew Lester has been immediately targeted for racial arson by Benjamin Crump and others of his ilk, with a full-blown propaganda campaign raging across Twitter and news media demonizing Lester for having shot 16-year-old Ralph Yari simply for the "crime" of having rung Lester's doorbell.

Within a day Lester was charged by Prosecutor Zachary Thompson with the life felony of first-degree assault, as well as 15-year felony armed criminal action.

Notably, Prosecutor Thompson informed the public that "It's been my goal from the very beginning to get justice for the child involved in the case." No mention was made of any interest in justice for Andrew Lester.

For me to be meaningfully sympathetic to her, I must have access to her voting record and her support for corrosive public policies.

Why Andrew Lester's Shooting of Ralph Yarl Was Lawful

As is common in high-profile, politically- and racially-charged shootings, I'm seeing an enormous amount of bad legal takes on whether the shooting of Ralph Yarl by Andrew Lester could possibly have been lawful.

In fact, Missouri law explicitly allows for the use of deadly defensive force under the circumstances in which Lester encountered Yarl, and we'll explore that in today's show.

One caveat--Yarl claims that the second time he was shot was while he was on the ground. I've seen no evidence to corroborate that claim, but there may well be forensic evidence decisive on that issue. If Yarl's claim is supported by the evidence, that second shot might be difficult to justify.

Any shots fired while Yarl was upright and apparently attempting to unlawfully enter Lester's dwelling, however, were almost certainly lawful under Missouri law.
