Yeah. I just watched this. I can't tell if the grandson is mixed race or just white trying to look black with the corn rows. Surprisingly Don Lemon actually seemed....objective? Don pushed back ever so slightly saying "You're making generalizations. Can you say anything specific that your grandfather said or did that was racist?"

And the answers?

1) He watched a lot of Fox News.
2) He was into "Q-Anon" conspiracies.
3) He was into "election denial."
4) He talked about "Fauci dogs." (Apparently this idiot grandson didn't take the time to look this up. It's a fact that Fauci tortured begal puppies).

Don Lemon, still trying to get something solid, said "Did he say anything about black people or minorities that you found offensive?"

The prodigal grandson. "Yeah. We were talking about abortion and he said something about black women and abortion and I didn't even know what he was talking about." Ummm....Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is an outspoken opponent of abortion who has made the point that black woman disproportionately have abortions! So...this chump thinks a black woman is an anti black racist because she doesn't like the fact that black women abort their babies at a higher rate than white women? What that...?

Anyway, this was put in the YouTube comments of this video.

I'm African American. Nothing this young man described his grandfather saying or doing is actually racist. Seriously. Nothing. Don Lemon was trying HARD to get him to actually bring forward any actual evidence of racism. Believing in conspiracy theories, Q-anon or otherwise is not racist. Lot's of black people think Tupac and Michael Jackson are still alive. Most Americans, black or white, believe there was a conspiracy to kill JFK. Watching Fox News doesn't make your racist. There are black people ON Fox News. Election denialism isn't racist. Black Democrat and former gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams spent 22 million in legal fees to try to prove that Dominion Voting Machines were used to steal the 2016 Georgia governor's race from her. Talking about "Fauci dogs" is not racist. It's a well known fact that Dr. Fauci approved cruel experiments on beagles in Africa. And Dr. Fauci is white! Talking about black women having abortions is not racist. Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is an outspoken opponent of abortion and she has made the point that abortion is part of anti black genocide because Planned Parenthood clinics are often in black neighborhoods and black women have more abortions per capita than white women. I saw this young man fumble when Don Lemon pointed out that his own brother disagrees with him and said he doesn't believe their grandfather is racist. Oh, and he looks like he's trying to fit in with the hip hop community with his hairstyle and dress. The saying in the hip hop community is "Snitches get stitches." No respect for this punk. And yes, what happened to Ralph Yarl is terrible. I hope there is a fair trial and justice wins out. But not everything is about race. A white man just recently killed a white female college student that accidentally drove up his drive way. And in Texas a Latino man shot and wounded two young cheerleaders, one white and one black, who got into his car by mistake. (From what I've seen they got out before he shot them making that shooting totally unjustified). Of the three recent mistaken shootings, the Ralph Yarl shooting is the only one that seems possibly justified. (No justification for shooting someone in your driveway who's backing away and no justification for shooting people after they have gotten out of your car.) But this shooting is getting the most attention because of the race angle. (Nobody is going to accuse the Latino of being racist cause....well I'm not sure.)

Wow! Old dude admitted that to the police. Anti Federalist and Occam's Banana, I'm all for waiting for the facts to come out and yes the media push certain narratives, but sometimes a spade is a just a spade. The kid was an honor student in band, not some home invasion robber. I think this old dude, just like the old white guy that shot the young white girl for going up the wrong driveway, or the young Latino who shot the two cheerleaders for getting in his car, was just someone without mental stability that didn't need to own a gun. Yes, there was likely no way of knowing that ahead of time. There is no reason to think some "red flag" law would have helped. Yes the second amendment is still important. One way to protect the 2nd amendment is to prosecute those who abuse it's privileges to the fullest extent of the law. The only good thing about this story is the kid didn't die so grandpa isn't going down for murder.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 84-yearold Kansas City man who shot 16-yearold Ralph Yarl admitted to Kansas City detectives that he opened fire “within a few seconds” of seeing the Black teen on his Northland doorstep, according to charging documents filed in Clay County on Monday, April 17.

The man, Andrew D. Lester, who is white, allegedly told police he feared for his safety when he answered the door and saw Yarl there. The teenager, an honor student at Staley High School, accidentally went to the wrong house while trying to pick up his younger brothers and was shot in the head after ringing the doorbell.

Kansas City man fired ‘within a few seconds’ of seeing Black teen at door

The case quickly caught national attention as celebrities and politicians — from Grammy award winner Jennifer Hudson to President Joe Biden — have weighed in on the shooting. Many have raised concerns about the shooting being racially motivated, and voiced outrage over gun violence and inequality in the criminal system.

Many also called for charges to be brought after Lester was released from police custody after 24 hours. According to charging documents, Clay County prosecutors believed the shooting warranted further investigation on Thursday, prompting Lester’s release from custody.

On Monday, Lester was charged with counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He faces up to 30 years in prison on the assault charge alone.

According to charging documents, the first call for a reported shooting came into Kansas City police at roughly 9:52 p.m.

Responding officers found Ralph Yarl in the street roughly five houses down from where the shooting had unfolded in the 1100 block of N.E. 115th Street. He was in serious but stable condition when paramedics arrived.

Shot through door
One witness, a neighbor, told police of the sound of gunfire coming from Lester’s home shortly before Yarl could be heard screaming for help. The officers responded there to see Lester standing inside the house behind a shattered glass storm door.

He was ordered to exit and taken into police custody.

Apparent blood was on the front porch, in the driveway and in the street. Swabs were taken for DNA analysis, and authorities dusted for fingerprints. Surveillance cameras were noticed outside of the residence.

Inside, in the living room, police recovered a Smith & Wesson revolver with two spent shell casings still in the cylinder. Live rounds occupied the remaining chambers.

Crime scene investigators collected evidence including photographs of the inside and outside of the home.

On April 14, the day after Yarl was shot, a Kansas City detective went back to conduct an informal interview after he was well enough to speak.

The teenager said he was asked by his mother to pick up his younger brothers from the neighborhood. But there was a mixup on the address, he said, that led him to 1100 N.E. 115th Street instead of 1100 N.E. Terrace.

After pulling into the driveway, Yarl told detectives he walked to the front door and rang the bell. He waited a while and then saw a white man answer with a firearm in hand.

He recalled being shot “immediately” after the door opened and falling to the ground. Then a second gunshot was fired, striking him in the arm, he said.

After being shot, Yarl heard the man say: “Don’t come around here.” Then he got up and ran “to keep from being shot” again, according to court documents.

He tried to get help from “multiple residences” and asked for someone to call 911, he told the detective.

He also told police he had not pulled on the door and had never visited the residence that he was trying to find.

‘Scared for his life’
During a recorded interview at Kansas City police headquarters on the night of the shooting, Lester allegedly said he had just gone to bed when he heard the doorbell ring. He said he grabbed his gun before heading to the door.

The main front door and glass storm door were both locked, he said. After opening the door, he said he saw a tall Black male pulling the handle and quickly concluded he was “attempting to break into the house.”

Lester said he fired two rounds “within a few seconds of opening the door,” according to court documents. He allegedly told police “it was the last thing he wanted to do, but he was ‘scared to death,’” according to court documents.

“He believed he was protecting himself from a physical confrontation and could not take the chance of the male coming in,” a detective wrote summarizing Lester’s statement to police, adding Lester appeared “visibly upset and repeatedly expressed concern for the victim.”

Yarl’s shooting prompted a protest Sunday, April 16 as well as national attention from celebrities including Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry and Justin Timberlake. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he hopes “the justice system does right by him.”

In a statement, Superintendent Dan Clemens said Yarl is “is an excellent student and talented musician. He maintains a stellar GPA while taking mostly college level courses.”

Politicians, including Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, also spoke up. President Joe Biden also said he had spoken with Yarl’s family and offered prayers.

In condemning the shooting, Cleaver said Monday he could think of “no justification for shooting a child multiple times for ringing the wrong doorbell.” Local activists also pointed to the case as one where the community must continue to pay attention to violence and racism.

In the wake of his shooting, Yarl’s family has retained renowned civil rights attorneys Ben Crump and Lee Merritt to represent them. Of the charges, lawyers said charges were a step in the right direction — but were only the beginning.

“We are relieved that charges are finally moving forward but are disappointed in the delay that necessitated national outcry for an obvious crime,” Merritt said. “We are cautiously optimistic about accountability and justice.”

He missed the basketball in the yard guy. Wonder why.

I can't stand Gavin Newsome. But how is he wrong on this? Out of the 3 stories listed, the only one even being debated on this forum (and frankly at this point it's not even up for legitimate debate), is whether or not Ralph Yarl knocked on the wrong door. (Honor roll student in band is most likely not a home invasion robber). The white woman that got killed by the 65 y/o white man was in the driveway. Completely unjustified shooting. The two cheerleaders were not carjackers and got out of the car before getting shot. All of those were mistakes that ended up getting 3 people shot and one person killed.

Now, the question is what to do about it? Gavin wants to take the guns away. Screw him. What is needed is more personal responsibility. True recent story. I was driving my dad to church recently, my mind was distracted, and I had a fender bender. Even though I barely clipped the car, he lost control, ran into a gas pump, totaled his car and the pump and the car caught on fire. He got out okay. Young black man, the kind many are afraid of. I of course stopped to check on him. He was understandably mad. As I walked up to him I apologized profusely and said unequivocally it was my fault. He was yelling back that he could have been killed and his car was totaled and all that. I told explained that I had insurance and everything would be okay. He finally said "Just give me a moment" and he did some pushups. Then he was okay. Then he went and got a few things out of the car including his Glock which he put in his pocket and I, of course, did not mention when the police showed up. My point to all of this? People have to be responsible and deescalate things. I deescalated and he deescalated. Sometimes you have to deescalate yourself. People need to be taught in church and school and civic organizations to deescalate. And if someone doesn't deescalate and causes harm, whether through guns or knives or fists, the have to be punished to the fullest extent of the law so the next person in that situation will thing to deescalate. According to crazy grandpa's own statement to the cops, he shot the kid through a locked storm door. He could have deescalated by shutting his front door. He didn't. Now he has to go to trial and face the consequences for his own actions.

You're absolutely correct about deescalation.

However, the greater problem is that crazy grandpa's escalation happened before Ralph Yarl ever stepped foot on his front porch.

I deescalated and he deescalated.

This just happened yesterday:

Mrs. AF comes in to tell me the chickens were agitated and fussing above normal. This usually means a predator is about. I walk out on my deck and take aim at a stump I use to hang targets on and let a few rounds fly to make some noise, which usually scares off any dogs, coyotes or what have have you. After about the third shot I hear a guy hollering off in the woods about 100 yards to the right. urns out a man was fishing the creek from the lake and walked all the way up onto my property without me knowing it. We both de-escalated a pretty tense moment because he was aware of all the recent incidents. When I explained I was shooting away from him and had no idea he was on my land, we both sort of apologized to each other, him for trespassing and me for scaring ten years off his life.

John Corriea at Active Self Protection preaches de-escalation all the time...it is a critical skill in this day and age.

All that said, based on the new accounts of what happened to Ralph Yarl and Andrew Lester, assuming those accounts are fully accurate then yes, there's nothing left to debate.

Clearly Lester acted in an illegal and unlawful manner in shooting Yarl.

There is no self defense justification here.

As far as I know, in all fifty states, the law regarding use of lethal force in self defense situation hinges on what a reasonable person would consider to be an imminent and immediate threat to life or limb.

Somebody ringing your doorbell, outside the home, unarmed and not posing any threat, cannot be taken as an imminent threat.

Someone who uses lethal force at that juncture clearly is committing a criminal act and exercising horribly bad judgement.

Now, all that said, because of the media lynch mob, assisted by the President and federal government of the United States, along with a real piece of shit grandson, Lester will have the book thrown at him. I expect federal "hate crime" charges within a few days, he'll be quickly thrown in jail where he, at 82, will soon die, the civil suits will follow and bankrupt Lester's widow, if he has one, and that will be justice done.

Meanwhile, no mind at all will be paid to the 6 year old white girl who was shot in the face for rolling a basketball onto the black man's lawn.

However, the greater problem is that crazy grandpa's escalation happened before Ralph Yarl ever stepped foot on his front porch.

I agree fully.

Careful introspection and consideration of one's actions, prior to engaging in them, along with poor impulse control, is a huge problem in this society.

Please explain with specificity what you believe was crazy grandpa's pre-porch escalation.

I can't speak for what The Count will say, but I can guess.

That Lester "escalated" by stewing and marinating for years in a toxic mix of white supremacy, hate speech, suspicion, conspiracy theories, Fox News, the bible and online disinformation, to the point where he was a coiled snake ready to strike, ready to lash out at the first "undesirable" that knocked on his door.

If this were this side of the state line, he'd be busted. We can shoot. We can make an invader look like Swiss cheese, with immunity--after they cross the threshold. This kid was outside. Even here in the Wild West he's not considered justified in firing.

Not to change the subject, but all of these apply directly to the majority of the Blue Team.

Great story! This reminds me of the time I de-escalated my dog. The first dog my ex and I had as a couple was a wolf chow mix we raised from a pup. When he was several years old some men were cutting our grass. I was in the office and I saw our dog was stalking one of them who had gone to relieve himself in the woods! No barking, just creeping up. I ran outside as fast as I could grabbed him! Dude was visibly shaken. I'll have to look up John Corriea. The question is how to get this information into the mainstream of society? Half of Americans no longer go to church. This should be taught in schools, guns or no guns. It could be a requirement for a carry permit, but we're getting away from that. Some gun owners carry insurance. Such a course could be a way to reduce insurance fees. I'm open to suggestions.

Yeah. The grandson is an attention grabbing jackass. I suspect he won't be welcome at future family reunions for his 15 minutes of fame.

As for the 6 year old, her shooter has been arrested. And he's liable for civil penalties as well.

It's pretty much 100% certain at this point that the #nashvillemassacre shooter was motivated by hate at conservative Christians for supporting supposedly "anti-trans" laws. For all his faults, crazy grandpa didn't go looking for someone to shoot. Unlike Daniel Perry, there's no statements, even from hateful grandson, of grandpa saying he wanted to shoot anyone or he could shoot someone and get away with it. Contrast to the Nashville shooter who targeted a Christian school she no longer attended, shot her way into the school and then proceeded to murder conservative Christians. And afterwards the "day of vengeance" trans rights group said that while they regretted the loss life, that the shooter must have felt the need to do this to be "visible." And...it is pretty disgusting that Don Lemon will never have the trans shooter's friends or family on to talk about her hatred of conservative Christians. That said, that's the world we live in.

The first article I read on this stated that the homeowner made a statement that when he opened the door after being awakened by noises, he couldn't see who was at the door only that whoever it was tall and had their hand on the locked door latch and was trying to force it open. That article has since disappeared. It's just a "page not found" in my history now.

They are trying to paint Kansas City as a place where blacks are unproportionately targeted. No mention that it is one of the most crime ridden Democrat cesspools in the country and that it's 90% Blacks committing the crimes and violence.

That article doesn't change the basic facts. The storm door was locked. There was a door behind the storm door that could have been shut and locked. The young man actually wasn't a threat even through the old man perceived him to be. The shooting could have been avoided if he (the old man) just shut the main door and shouted "Go away! I'm calling the police!" We had the Latino that shot the two cheerleaders in Texas that got in his car. There were a car jacking in D.C. done by two teen girls a few years ago where the Uber Eats driver ended up getting killed. (He didn't let go of his car and was drug down the street and they crashed and flipped the car.) Just because you have some reason to be afraid doesn't mean you have the right to use deadly force.

I'll have to look up John Corriea.

Great legal and tactical advice, even if he is little too pro-cop for me.

He also happens to be a pastor.

I am all for Constitutional Carry but at the same time I recognize the need for at least some basic training in the legal and tactical and practical aspects of carrying a sidearm and using deadly force.

You know, a lot of "super car" manufacturers, Ferrari, McLaren, Koenigsegg...brands like that...they will not let you take possession of your new car without attending one of their driving classes. They don't want the bad publicity of some dumb ass leadfoot crashing their million dollar hypercar into a school bus at 250 mph.

Maybe the gun makers might want to consider something like that, without government interference.

It would also give an instructor a chance to spot an obvious lunatic prior to taking possession.

Yeah. The grandson is an attention grabbing jackass. I suspect he won't be welcome at future family reunions for his 15 minutes of fame.

I'm looking more at the lack of media attention, presidential visits and the suspect not getting the book thrown at him.

He'll plead out to disorderly conduct and time served.
