I am of Mexican decent. My Father was 3/4 Mexican, so I am almost half. Years ago my favorite Uncle came her illegally before becoming a U.S. Citizen. So I have a great respect, admiration and love for the Mexican Culture who have contributed much to this society. Interesting post. One thing to remember. Mexican isn't a race. You're either a white spaniard, a brown Amerindian, or a racial admixture of both (called "Mestizo"). There are lots of people who are white in Mexico. Now that we have our races straight....let's talk about Mexico and California.

I want to briefly address the food comment: Americans are not too fat because food is too cheap, but largely because the cheapest food available to us is fast food. Aside from the time considerations involved with cooking, more wholesome food is just too expensive for poorer people to see value in it. There are other cultural/lifestyle/political reasons too of course, but I really wouldn't say "food is too cheap for our own good" is one of them.
