Massachusetts caucus today

District 9 was very close. The votes for delegates were counted over and over for about an hour and a half. Many RP people were watching and counting along so I don't doubt the accuracy. We lost the top three but came in 4,5,6 out of 8 or so candidates. The number 4 slot lost to number 3 by 6 votes. Whats interesting is there were 20 provisional votes, which are people that live in the district but for whatever reason they weren't on the voting list today, even though they registered in time. My girlfriend was one of these votes and she registered a month before the deadline and voted for RP in the primaries, so her not being on the list is baffling to me.

Because of this their votes weren't counted today but will get sent to the state committee and once those people are verified as being from district 9, the votes will be opened and counted. Whats great about this is 18 of the 20 provisionals were from our RP group. So we should have at least 1 delegate from district 9 after the provisional votes are counted.

when votes are sent away they ALWAYS go the way the party wants them, have you noticed? Cite a SINGLE time it has gone the other way.

All the same, thanks for your report. I don't know where that leaves us on the total and being able to elect the delegation head.

Things went so well, that as we were leaving, a Romney lady was pointing at us (Ron Paul supporters) and saying "I HATE THEM! I HATE YOU! YOU ARE RUINING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!"

HAHAHA, no joke.

The party will probably go through those provisional credentials with a fine tooth comb.

However, sometimes the committees are run by ethical people. I betcha Romney isn't exacly loved by everyone in the state GOP. He did not win the governorship by a wide margin, and he still has RomenyCare to answer for.

i just repped this thread the best i could! its sweeeeeeeeeet, reeeeeeet, neat and laid back!

I feel the same way. According to the RP organizer that we had, he promises us that a RP person will be present when the votes are opened. If thats true, we should easily have at least one delegate from CD9.

This thread and the Louisiana one remind me of the "old days". :) RP supporters striking back at the empire, unannounced, unexpected, and unorothodox. :p

Just got back from my first caucus. There were way more people there than last time. Ron Paul Liberty Slate people got 117 votes for first place, 115 went to Heeley and 114 was a tie between two RP supporters. My vote, along with 6 others were not counted yet as they were sealed because were weren't on the list. I registered the day before the deadline so I'm guessing that's why. However one of the delegates himself was not on the list despite being registered 4 months prior. Sounds fishy. Anyway, we know at least 1 other person's sealed vote was for the three RP people and 1 was for the second place person. That leaves four ballots left. We need 3 out of the four to guarantee getting 1st, 2nd, and third. If there's a tie Romney's chairman gets to decide and we know where that will go. So all in all we are guaranteed 2 out of the 3 and maybe more. There were Republican big wigs in our district who were not happy. Former governor candidates, state minority leaders, etc.

It's totally my fault but I should have gotten my wife to register in time and come. And my neighbor backed out yesterday. THen again most of the men there had wedding rings but no spouse to be found. Shame on me.

Now all we gotta do is make sure Romney doesn't get 1144 and we'll be in awesome position to get this thing! So 2, maybe 3 for CD 6!
Ahh too bad wives and girlfriends are easy pickins' at least you showed up and did your part though.

Oh and my very good friend was at the district 8 precinct. He said the crowd got pretty rowdy over some ballots getting tossed out. The top RP delegate came in 4th by 4 votes. This district had 9 provisional votes that were almost all RP voters too. Hopefully one more out of district 8!

Romneys camp bused people in and bought them breakfast @ CD9. They were even handing out stickers that could just be stuck on the ballot with their 3 peoples names right on it! That seems like a good idea maybe we should start doing it. Good to see the grassroots is almost as strong as the machine!

a comment on an article:

The Liberty slate won all 6 delegates and alternates at the 7th District Caucus! The vote was somewhere around 55 to 37. There werent any arguments or anything.

from greenpapers:

Saturday 28 April 2012: Deadline for Congressional District Conventions. 27 District delegates are elected according to the results of the primary.

28 April 2012: Reports indicate that Paul supporters won the delegate positions in districts 2, 3, 5, 7.

but it looks like there are 41 delegates in all, so.....even if the provisional votes are counted fairly, we have 18 and less than half of that [the 41] according to our estimates, I think. Mind you they are all bound to Romney on first ballot, but this may control who elects the delegate chair. But I am guessing here, I don't really know how this all works.

I don't think it's out of the question that some of the regular GOP voted with the Paulistas today. Really, Paul's non-interventionalist and civil liberties positions are much more in phase with northeastern Republicanism anyway than the FOX news brand. And Romney's campaign may have been clumsy and ham-handed leading up to the conventions, turning people off.
