Man Arrested for Refusing To Open Door For Police W/O Warrant- TLC's Police Women of Cinci

And if it is fake, you don't see a problem with it? Maybe the suggestion that they are so comfortable with their position of power that they would openly act out an unconstitutional arrest? Idgaf if it is fake. She is a real pig, she obviously harbors some of those feelings, or otherwise she would have said, "No, I will not disgrace myself by doing that." Know what I iz sayin?

I see a problem with it, alright. The guy that said "Don't open the door" is right to do so. They play clips of her narrating the offense made by her, using statements that have no relevance to her position as a "officer of the law", since she is violating the law herself. The captions at the bottom of the screen gives the impression that they have to "interpret" the home owners words for you.
It may be "real", but it was chosen for TV for the purpose of twisting things in the viewers minds. "Just cooperate, don't make the situation worse".

I think where they went wrong was when they opened the door and came outside. In a real situation, that could be taken as consent, or given them enough probable cause if they saw something going on inside.

Just to help inform you (and other readers) if a cop comes knocking at your door what you WANT to do is to go exit the house and close the door. Not doing so allows them to look into the house legally while they are talking to you through the door or what-have-you.

If you exit the house and close the door to interact with them then they have no reasonable excuse to be snooping into your house while questioning you. And the entirety of your conversation should be ask if they have a warrant or if you're being detained. As soon as they tell you no to those things then say good bye, go back in your house, and close the door.

But shows like that are usually staged/reenacted, so they could really do whatever.

Yeah, pretty much.

Funny. That's how I feel about them.

I think it depends on why they are there. In a lot of cases, my only words would be to ask them to leave my property, and I can do that without opening the door at all.

Because staged shit gets ratings that's why.
If you were told you were going to be filmed for 8 weeks as part of a reality television show and they told you to act out a trumped up charge or to act out violating someone's rights would you? You do understand that that would reflect on you personally?

She is a real cop. It obviously isn't that offensive to her or she would not have done it. Why hasn't her department released a statement saying as much? As in, "We are an honest police department, the men were not legally required to open their door. The incident is staged and our cops would never do that." Could it be that they don't care about your rights either?

She sure flatters herself thinking he thought she might be a stripper :D

Stopped by her FB page...it's blowing up....taking down tyranny, one thug at a time...

The show is staged because they arent attacking the camera person and interrogating them.

TLC is propaganda central. Theyre teaching people that they will be kidnapped and locked in a cage if they dont open the door.

Exactly. I have a problem with it whether it was real or staged. Cincinnati PD hasn't condemned it soo...

See, the real question is: at what point(after having asked them politely to leave) is it okay--"legally"--to forcibly make them leave.

Yeah, you're probably right. But if the guy had flipped shit on her--which I probably would've done-- he would've been shot or tased.

So, if you're attacked, you can't fight back...not gonna happen.

Didn't say you couldn't fight back, you just can't legally assault an officer.

It was on TV, it must be real?

This letter is in response to the video of Cincinnati Police Officer Mandy Curfiss that has been posted on a number of different websites.

It was not the decision of the prior or current administration of the Cincinnati Police Department to present to the public a staged police encounter involving any member or members of this or any other community.

Subject Matter:

The Learning Channel television show, Police Women of Cincinnati, Episode 4, original air date February 3, 2011. To wit: Segment depicting Officer Curfiss investigating a noise complaint.

Background: In 2010, under then Police Chief, Colonel Thomas H. Streicher, Jr., the Cincinnati Police Department entered into an agreement with The Learning Channel television network regarding Police Women of Cincinnati.

The incident in question is currently uploaded to YouTube titled “Police Women of Cincinnati-Partiers won’t open door.” On surface content alone, the video reflects poorly upon the Cincinnati Police Department. As a result, I authorized a full review of the incident by the Professional Standards Section, to investigate the propriety of action of the involved officers.

In summary of the completed investigation, the two minute segment was edited from over forty minutes of footage recorded by the producers of the television show. Following a final disposition of the original call for service, the involved parties who exited the home agreed to “stage” additional footage with purpose to further entertainment value for the proposed viewing audience. Although one party was handcuffed, no-one was arrested or criminally charged. In short, the two minute edited version of the incident is not a full reflection of how events transpired during the forty minutes the officers were on scene.

The Cincinnati Police Department fully recognizes how the video footage has caused some degree of dissatisfaction among the viewing audience. As the current Chief of Police, I totally support those who demand the highest level of professionalism and decorum among our officers, as such; I initiated the above mentioned review of the incident. Although I am unable to manage the past, I am committed to upholding our officers to the highest standards.

Sincerely,

JAMES E. CRAIG
Chief of Police
