Rick Santorum makes claims that "7 or 8" of California's university systems don't offer American History courses. To an outsider, this may seem like a lot, but it completely ignores the fact that California's major university system, the public universities (13 UCs and 23 CSUs) who have more students than any other university system not only offer varying history courses, but require their undergrads to take American History to graduate. Anything outside of this are trade schools, art schools, private religious universities, and a select few prestigious private universities such as Stanford and USC. I know in some other states particularly on the east coast, state funded schools are usually less prestigious than a lot of private institutions, but that is not so much the case in California. A lot of the top notch universities in California are ones in the UC system, which as I stated all require American History to be taught. Myself, I was even required to take American History in my community college, let alone 4-year universities.

I think this is an attempt to make California look unamerican, and that Californians are out of touch with education and the rest of the country. I am worried that this could be used as an attempt to rally other states against California if Ron Paul either wins the primary here or gets a high percentage of the votes. They could easily pass it off as "oh they don't know anything! Californians are so out of touch with the rest of America that it doesn't matter who they voted for". If Ron Paul wins in California, a lot of the anti-California sentiment that I see often could soon become anti-Paul by then correlating that Ron Paul is also unamerican and out of touch with the country.

I thought this was funny. He said that none of them taught US History and he is right there is a school in California who doesn't teach US History. What is their excuse? They're a medical school.
