Maine Legislator Turncoat

I think it's fair to speculate that the PTB must have some dirt on this guy for him to drop this bomb-shell right now. To Romney this is like a small insurance policy in case Ron does get traction "Look, even his own people have jumped ship and are now on board with my campaign". That meme would last about 5 seconds and would get shot down fairly quickly but it must serve some sort of purpose.

The question is what was that Harmon guy involved in that they were able to get to him? Improper dealings? Corruption? Setup by a hooker with some weird fetish? Anybody up for some online sleuthing tonight?

Party loyalty would have been fine AFTER the convention. He backstabbed Ron the day before the Maine convention where Ron has a very real chance to take a plurality of delegates. That's a huge difference.
Doing this on the eve of the convention is very snake-like.

I expect to hear deafening chants of "SELL OUT!!" at the convention.

I would disagree, if he openly supported Ron at the convention and voted for his people in these spots, and we lose, guess who the Maine GOP is gonna take out their RP frustration on? You got it, every RP supporter in state government!

He would not have been damaged politically in ME if he stuck with Ron. Ron did extremely well in ME, it isn't fringe or outsider to endorse Ron there.

Now if RP supporters take over the ME GOP he will be damaged for backstabbing Ron.

Bad choice.

EXACTLY! Thank you Kathy, that is my ENTIRE point! Why was Ron ostracized by the GOP? Because he never showed any loyalty at all to the GOP, he openly criticized GOP leaders and policies, and we wonder why the perception is we aren't "real" republicans. That matters to these people, being disloyal to the GOP to them is equal to being disloyal to the liberty movement for you. We want to create a NEW generation of leaders who will be able to accomplish legislative achievements because they aren't perceived as outsiders in the way Dr Paul is.

Well, you could make nice with the party leadership and become part of the Establishment, like Paul Ryan, and get heralded as a rising star, the future of the party with your face plastered over Time Magazine and adoring mainstream media journalists fawning over you, but compare what someone like Paul Ryan has actually been able to do for liberty versus the actions of our good doctor. Although Paul Ryan's piecemeal reforms have gotten party approval, they are castigated as "right-wing social engineering" by opportunists like Gingrich and languish in the Congress, blocked by obstructionist Democrats who scream bloody murder over shaving a fraction of a hair from the federal budget over an entire decade. Even though Ron Paul has often been a lonely voice in the wilderness for over THREE DECADES, look at the PASSION that his principles and consistency have been able to engender - not just support for such actions as targeting the Fed from even establishment candidates like Gingrich and Perry, but a real MOVEMENT that has the potential to reverse the damage wrought by far too much compromise over the years through the force of such a (dare I say RADICAL?) concept as liberty and actually return this nation to peace and prosperity.

Why not instead use the Rand Paul comparison? He satisfies all the criteria you mention about Ryan, AND he has accomplished more for liberty then any other senator in recent history. He got a plan that balances the budget by 2017 endorsed by all 47 GOP senators, and he did it by "playing nice" with the GOP. Rand Paul is the model for the future of our revolution, he has shown how we can effectively legislate AND maintain a strong love of liberty.

You aren't familiar with his district are you?

I am. I was actually going to be there this weekend house shopping, but something came up.

He would have been fine.

And he did all that without endorsing Romney. Huh.

Paul Ryan voted for TARP. Ryans budget won't balance for twenty years assuming anyone sticks to it that long. Are you seriously suggesting Ryan is anyone anyone here should like?

There will be elections after Ron Paul. If he took flak for his support for Ron Paul before, he may just think Paul has lost the contest. This isn't a huge deal. Regretful, sure, but if his ideas are good why the degree of hate.

Because it hurts Ron and nothing about him is worth that.

Holy cow, NO!!!

Maybe my response was way too wordy and gave off the wrong impression... What I was trying to write was that, yes, sucking up to the Establishment will get you brownie points and media attention, but the "going along to get along" mentality ultimately severely limits what you are able to do. The system as it is remains hopelessly flawed - we need a NEW paradigm, and that's what Dr. Paul's been doing with both his words and actions.

As I see it.... This is still an open primary! Romney has not secured the nomination by delegates, nor has the competition been eliminated. Ron Paul is still very much in the contest and fighting !

The RNC should not be endorsing any one candidate. They should not be sending emails or trying to win support for one candidate. Shame on all of them! This is against their own rules!

So do not tell me to take off my RP glasses, and in the same breath, say its perfectly fine that all of the establishment has on ROMNEY FAKE-rhinestone shades.

Color me pissed!
