I am starting a new thread to tell you what we are actually doing on the ground to help prepare for this, so we don't get lost in the very long thread.

First, I spoke with the City Attorney and we are trying to find an old School or Motel where we can get an occupancy exception to pack it. Such a place would have many rooms, showers, and kitchen.

The new PAC for the buses project would pay for this too, so no cost for volunteers. Other than donations obviously.

Yes, you can designate "this is for buses, this is for housing". That's fine.

This will be more expensive in the short run, but have a greater cost savings and allow far more folks who want to come up to be assured of not getting into trouble putting too many people in a house or making some mistake that looks bad on Ron.

The city fully knows that they have empty buildings and can make deals and want money, so this will likely happen but not before June.

And we really do not have many things to do right now anyway, so keep your socks dry and hang tight. Let us get something real and functional and not just rush off into houses and neighborhoods on Craigslist you don't know much about.

I will post updates here and please ask questions.

Rachel,

Thank you for jumping on this. Where is it hoped to be located at? Since you are an Iowan will you be, or could you assist finding a "House Leader?" Are there any other locals there on the ground that can work on this?

Where, is Des Moines or a town near to Des Moines and Ames. We don't care where, and the city is helping us look. We need one with sprinklers or we will have to pay to put them in. You can buy a whole school for 150K. Seriously. Use it for 9 months and sell it for about the same price back. Like rent free if we do not trash it. If we put in a sprinkler, it only means we can sell it for more. And yes, all this can be done in a month. We are covering both possibilities.

We will find house leaders and ask you folks right here, for a few to come in early and help set up and draft rules etc. We will have local people willing to help and cook and transport too.

Rachel, thanks for taking initiative on this. Can we get C4L, young americans for liberty, libertarian clubs etc from Iowa colleges involved in this? They might be able to help, and also, when would be a good time to get plane tickets? (regional airport lol no tsa). I want to wait til the details are finalized but also don't want to wait til last minute b/c prices go up...also, we need to seriously get some pro-Ron TV and radio ads kicked off in Iowa, and soon. This will make his poll numbers there go up (and anti-romney ads)

one step at a time.

This is sometime in June. There isn't much to do here right now, that can't be done on line and remotely. Just relax and when we hit it we will be organized and in force not randomly acting.

rachel thanks, and a side note on craigslist more rentals on craigslist are scams! When we were looking for rentals in denver we finally said screw craigslist and found other rental sites! If you would like i can get my wife to get me the link of the one where we finally found a house that wasn't a scam!!

For older buildings, consider asbestos and lead paint/pipes.

It's important to charge rent!

Proof of Identity

If you do not have an Iowa's driver license, you can provide one of the following to prove who you are:

Out-of-state driver's license or non-driver identification card
U.S. passport
U.S. military ID
ID card issued by your employer
Student ID issued by an Iowa high school or college

Proof of Residence

You can use one of the following to prove where you live:

Residential lease

In short, if someone comes up and rents living space on a month to month lease, they are legally a resident and can vote.

Week to week might work too.

Question- Are we asserting that we get a complex full of Ron Paul people, make them all residents of Iowa, then they all will be able to vote in the Iowa straw poll? This is more genius than I originally assumed.

So it looks like non-resident college students are actually eligible to vote then. That's good. It'll be summer but there should still be a few around that we can hopefully canvass and get to Ames.

YES! Bullseye. Bingo. That is 100% true and legit. The GOP may however require an Iowa ID for their private poll. You can get an Iowa ID with proof of rent, for $10. So, it is cheap and you can trade it back for your home state weeks/months later.

It is legal to vote in the Iowa Caucus too, so long as you do not vote in any other state's primary. So give up your vote in OH where it may not matter and vote in Iowa.

Consider this a mini Free State project.

You really think that "Ron Paul supporters move to Iowa for a week to rig Straw Poll" is a fantastic headline?

Do not do this.

Get Iowa voters in, not out of staters. The grassroots can help encourage residents to participate. That's where the line is drawn.

Please think about future news spin before you lead a number of volunteers down the wrong path.

Yep be careful here, if Foxnews finds out about this it will be all over the news, brought up in debates and the establishment will label us cheaters

No, I wasn't suggesting people move there for a week. I was suggesting that the people that came up to live and canvas in IA for the summer as well as students residing and going to school in IA, but paying out of state tuition become state residents and vote. IA's definition of residency makes them qualify. They are living in the state for an extended period of time.

I didn't quote your post. My comments were directed towards RachelFaith.

There is a difference in getting the actual students of IA colleges to volunteer/vote and out of state volunteers moving in who volunteer/vote.

Do not organize out of staters with the intention of them voting. If anyone promotes this, they will be banned.

I agree with Josh. If even a few of our out of state volunteers do this, Foxnews will make it their job to blow it out of proportion. Better to keep the moral high ground than sacrifice it for a few dozen votes.

But yeah, it sounds like out of state college students with Iowa college IDs would work.
