At their core, Statism adheres to the belief that the "State" is supreme and Libertarianism adheres to the belief that the Citizen is supreme.
The foundation for American Statism was laid with the 14th Amendment.
The LP is "collectivist" only in the since that any and all Government would be considered "collectivist" and, if this is accurate, then the only alternative is a pure form of Anarchy.
But Anarchy is not possible by definition, because "bands" of outlaws would form to prey on the weak, and any form of "banding" employs a rudimentary form of "government" and "collectivism".
Life is collectivist.
In the political sense, the belief that the Individual is supreme is non-collectivist.
