I still don't want to give up my status as a citizen of Louisiana.
That is the major thing holding me back.

Peter Schiff devotes a whole chapter for this in The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets called, "Pack Your Bags"

In it he lists factors for one to look into so they can make the best choice for their situation. In general, Peter recommends what he calls the BRIC countries.

Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

He sees these countries as having the most growth in the next decade, however, he lists other factors that could lead one to another choice.

Yea, the media was making fun of Todd Palin for having been involved with a secession movement, and now it looks like he might have been on the right track.
To me, seems like secession of moving to another country is the best option.

You would still find yourself dependent for oil/natural gas to keep warm. Not that it isn't possible, aka Japan, but the place isn't exactly people friendly. Also, what businesses could you run out that place?
