Here are my thoughts after our Bexar County conventions this past week - they pulled all the dirty tricks they could. In the end it didnt matter for us - but it could have. Know what to expect and how to prepare. Also feel free to use this wiki - i have a readable section on the TRP rules and election code to help navigate.

The best part was having 4 pages of supplementary rules shrunk down and put on a single page and given less than five minutes to read it.

they took away our ability to vote by delegate strength. The temp chair did everything she could to block any vote by delegate strength. If we had that ability - we would have carried the convention.

What makes you think voting by delegate strength would have changed the outcome (and for which particular motions are you referring)?

In hindsight, what part of the rules limited the ability of delegates to participate fairly in the convention?

There were only a few precincts that had 15 or more delegates and probably less than 10 that had over 20 - we had many of those. If they had let us vote by delegate strength we would have had the majority.

Rule 3 B) 3. - the convention chair interpreted this to mean that if they had an overwhelming majority on standing vote - then they did not have to do a vote by delegate strength. and that is what she did. she refused to do a vote by delegate strength.

All in all it didnt really matter for our convention. If I had it to do over again we would not have tried to claim the chair and would have followed the other strategy outlined in my thoughts.

Bexar--you guys have a lot of RP support. Did we get a single delegate from there? Were you coordinating with the Meetups?

Given the size of the delegate allocation to the state convention, I'm sure a few supporters made it through. It's impossible to determine numbers because it's not a caucus like you see in other states and the vast majority of people present don't get involved in discussions of who supports who.

I don't know if you want to pursue it, but that is a violation of the rules.

In order to demand a roll call vote, 20 percent of the precincts need to deliver a request to the convention chair in writing. That came up in our SD convention also. While we controlled 20 percent of the precincts, we didn't have the request in writing. The chair gave us 2 minutes to caucus and deliver it, and we were unable to get it accomplished in 2 minutes time. Next time, we all need to study our Robert's Rules ahead of time and have an experienced parliamentarian. The good news is -- there WILL be a next time.
