Latest presidential polling: Biden 51 Trump 49

You are quite right, but late to the party.

Trump isn't there to destroy the GOP.

That's already been done.

There's nobody left to run.

The people had their chance at a Milie in 2012, and rejected him.

They had their chance at a neocon hawk, and rejected him.

They had their chance at straight laced "moderate", and rejected him.

They had their chance at a bull in the china shop wrecker, and rejected him.

So there is nothing left.

Demographics determine elections.

Yep. This country is in desperate need of a third party, but the population is so convinced and coerced by the current duopoly that their only options are D or R that they simply refuse to consider any other party. And those parties don't do themselves any favors by trying to attract voters by pretending to be diet left or diet right... if I were running say the libertarian party, I would proudly and boldly distinct ourselves from both of the establishment parties, and give people a damned good reason to vote L. And I don't even think it would be that hard... non-military interventionist in foreign affairs, trade with all, mind our business; and domestically slowly roll back spending, dole out more freedom to people to make decisions for themselves while in the process keeping safeguards in place (because FedGov has created a few generations of indentured servants). Incrementally role back taxes across the board (they really don't pay anything anyway), and gradually devolve the USD from a total fiat currency to one that is backed by hard currency.

Which is basically what Milei is doing in Argentina.

And it's both heartening to see such a thing happen, yet also sad that it's happening in Argentina and not here. We are NOT leading the world in the cause of liberty and freedom any longer. Now we're just an aggressive super-state that uses military might to keep our population, fat, happy, and stupid.

Are they? Or are they just reluctant to make the leap because they don't believe their neighbors will make the leap with them?

With covid lockdowns, mistrust of anyone from the "other team" so severe people just don't talk politics in person, and the net full of rabble-rousing bot shitposters, I guess we'll never know for sure.

Well I think that's exactly it. Peer pressure doesn't just end after middle school. People largely are convinced that if they vote for anyone other than D or R, they're "WaStInG tHeIr VoTe". Without stating it explicitly, that's exactly what I was getting at with my post.

And that's why I also said that if these 3rd parties had any freaking sack, they'd actually intentionally differentiate themselves from the D's and the R's (and not in the goofball way of walking out on to the stage during their convention naked, or dressed like a cabbage or something) they might actually find some success. No one is going to vote for D lite or R lite... might as well just vote for D or R. Give people a REAL option.

It's probably things like this that lead to revolutions. But I don't think the American public have the balls for that. Too fat, happy and lazy...

Oh sure, no doubt.

But I am not at all convinced that this is a false number entirely.

Yes, roughly half the voting public, likes things just the way they are and want more.

Especially the young.

ETA, from the Emerson poll -

“Biden leads Trump among voters under 30, 43% to 37%, with 20% undecided. When these voters are forced to choose between Biden and Trump and their support is included in the total, 58% support Biden and 42% Trump,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said.

Haley primary voters break for Biden in the general election, 63% to 27%, with 10% undecided. In 2020 these voters broke for Biden 52% to 36%.

Among respondents between the ages of 18 and 24, 65 percent said they believe he would "shake up the country for the better," while only 35 percent view him as a "danger to democracy," according to the poll, which surveyed 2,022 registered voters from February 21 to 22.

What were the polls saying in 2016?

I believe most polls back then were saying Hillary was going to win.

They weren't just saying she was going to win... it was going to be a landslide.

I just got into this argument today with Mrs. AF.

Actually the polls were fairly tight, from mid October into Election Day.

Hillary was ahead by 1 to 7 points depending on the poll, within the MOE on many.

Her lead dropped in the last week or two.

RCP's final average was Hillary up by only 2.1

It was the scumbag MMOs that were hyping all the Hillary landslide talk.

These kids better not be f**king with me, because if this turns out to be accurate, my cold dead heart might actually start beating again. And we can't have that unless there is something out there for it to beat.

Please disregard that last sentence if you have a filthy mind like I do...
