Justin Amash: Party of One

This actually seems like a pretty fair article coming from the Weekly Standard.

I'm glad he avoids the journalists from the Weekly Standard. Smart guy.

HOw I hope and pray that someday can send him a copy of this when he's being sworn into office as President, for this bit alone.
For the Republican establishment, Amash may be more an amusing spectacle than a serious threat. After the first ask, the GOP leadership doesn’t bother whipping Amash on votes. Committee chairs have learned he’s not likely to budge and usually don’t try to negotiate with him. No congressman is an island, but Amash comes close.

What is clear is that the majority of Amash’s Facebook interlocutors share his interest in Austrian economics, libertarian philosophy, and the politics of Ron Paul. In fact, Amash may be more the true heir to the elder Paul’s libertarian throne than his son Rand Paul, the Kentucky senator (and Romney endorser).

Libertarian throne, lol.

I like the way Ron and Rand have contrasted each other, but Ron was/is the philosophical anchor...by setting his Constitutional voting record, and reminding us what it is we're striving for. Justin is doing something unique with this vote explanations/transparency... I think it's inspiring.

Lol they won't be amused any longer when we put even more principled libertarians in congress this next election cycle they know were slowing taking over and are gonna take back our country because people like Ron Paul and Justin Amish keep up the good work Justin more patriots will be on their way to Washington in November.

I hope this guy runs for higher office. The more I read about him the more I like.

I love Amash, and what I love even more is that my support for him is as passionate as RP's. I'm glad that he will be taking the reins after Ron.

That's far from certain given that Amash will have a tough reelection this year.

His most likely general election opponent has more cash on hand than Amash as of June 30.

That article is pretty much what I would expect from The Weekly Standard.

“He is a well-intentioned guy with very different goals than most people up here,” said one House Republican aide. “He’s not interested in governing.”

Lol, isn't that the gist of the matter? There is too much "governing" going on! Busy-body Mommy and Daddy-State bureaucrats who want to govern every aspect of other people's lives. Hire people to work in the government, and they will find something to do, and odds are it will be counter-productive, expensive and oppressive.

Amash is friggin awesome!

I think we should support his run as a Presidential nominee even if not immediately. Rand makes too many mistakes within his own constituency for the purists in our movement. I think we should consider supporting Amash when we have more of our people in leadership positions across the country so we can deal with what happened with Ron across the country and rout the corrupt members attempt.

Amash has made a few mistakes as well, and he was thin-skinned in response to criticisms of his Israel aid vote. Not sure he'll do well in higher politics.

Now who does that remind me of....?

If peevishness when his votes are questioned is his worst fault, I can stand it. A couple of the votes THEMSELVES could have been better, but they weren't mortal, and he's a work in process as a freshman.

We do have to fund him against that Dem.

I agree. I like Amash, but it doesn't seem like he responds well to criticism of his votes.

To be fair, he does invite the criticism by openly explaining his votes online--most others probably aren't that emotionally invested. Sometimes, when people come under criticism, they grow a thicker skin as result of the experience...or sometimes the opposite. Remains to be seen.

Anyway, I get the feeling some of his stances are closer to Rand than Ron, on some issues...but his personality and political style is much more like Ron (taking lone votes, etc). I definitely want to help him keep his seat.
