While the 2016 presidential election may be two years away, some prospective contenders have been getting a bit of media attention. The latest CBS News/New York Times Poll asked the public whether they would like to see some of these figures, as well as other party leaders, run for president in 2016.

From a list of five high profile Republican Party leaders, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul capture the most interest among self-identified Republicans; about four in 10 want to see each run for President

Would You Like to See Them Run for President?
(Among Republicans)
---------------- Yes No Don’t Know enough
Jeb Bush ------- 41% 27 30
Rand Paul ------ 39% 21 39
Marco Rubio ---- 32% 15 51
Chris Christie - 31% 41 26
Ted Cruz ------- 24% 15 59

Among independents, 50% would like to see Hillary Clinton jump in the race – the highest percentage among both the Democratic and Republican figures asked about in the poll. 30% of independents would like Rand Paul to run for president (the highest among the Republican possibilities listed), but nearly as many – 29%-- don’t want to see him run.

This poll was conducted by telephone February 19-23, 2014 among a total of 1,644 adults nationwide. Data collection was conducted on behalf of CBS News by Social Science Research Solutions of Media, PA. Phone numbers were dialed from samples of both standard land-line and cell phones.

Well that's fairly significant.

Current thoughts on Rand's strategy:

i still dont get why so many brain dead people are getting polled? they all support rubio.

"A recent poll was taken among Republicans asking them who they would like to see run for President in 2016. Jeb Bush came in first, Rubio came in third, and Christie in fourth. But they are not the only Republican hopefuls who have a shot at the White House, we shouldn't ignore Mike Huckabee."

If another New World Order piece of chit even going to mention Bush ... I'm out of this dying country so fast... won't even see my head spin..

Seriously??????? Look what the Clinton's/Bush's/ and whatever the hell the real name of this monstrosity in the White House right now .. This new President has more alias than Al Capone.

I don't like the idea of having these political familes.. and this also kinda includes the Pauls. Might as well bring back the monarchy system.

It appears they asked the same question (yes, no, don't know) about each candidate in the group; they could have answered 'yes' to all of them.

For both Rubio and Cruz, the majority answered 'don't know'

For Christie though, it was probably more like a 'hell no'

I just can't understand why anyone would want a 3rd Bush in the White House, especially when his brother left office with a 25% approval rating. What is wrong with people?

I think this far out from 2016 it's mostly name recognition.. though you're right. You'd think psychologically people would be allergic to the name Bush after he was more or less shamed out of office, heh

Since govs usually make "less awful" POTUS than senators, how about Jeb for POTUS, Rand for Veep?
