I'm a member of lang-8, a social networking site for people who love learning languages, and I have Japanese friends on there (learning Japanese), and he is quite liked by them. I even found Ron Paul's books translated into Japanese, and I'm considering reading them and recommending them if the translation is good.

A lot of Japanese are really big on the idea of getting the military out of Okinawa. Apparently, the current trend amongst Americans is to get stationed there, rape some Japanese schoolgirls, then relocate to Guam to avoid charges. Japan is a country of relatively low crime, so this kind of thing especially upsets them.

I commented in a thread just last week about how well RP is received abroad.

I have been living abroad for more than 12 years in multiple countries, and he is discussed by expat communities consisting of people from all over the world. The one thing they can all agree on is that "America needs to mind its own business". Sounds like something I heard RP say himself, "We need to mind our own business".

How big is the station / how much reach did this have in Japan? Would be interesting to see if more news covers Ron Paul there.

It's not one of the main networks but it's still pretty popular. I would equate it to something like TBS in the states. Shows alot of TV drama and Anime. I bet it reached quite a few young people. Haven't heard anyone talk about him though. That is, unless I bring him up to people. Most of my friends know of him and like him (mostly because of me introducing them).

Hey, I used to frequent lang-8 back when I had more time. My focus was Japanese and I spoke with a good number of Japanese people, men and women. You described what I heard perfectly, and I enjoyed every single conversation I had with them. Very friendly and they clearly wanted to help and to learn. Good times
