Jack Hunter Resigns

Based on what I heard about this Jack Hunter guy, he was rather unlikable character who dismissed libertarians and thought he was smarter than others...So good riddance! I just hope Rand doesn't hire someone Zionist to advise him on foreign policy: you don't replace a "white racist" with a Jewish racist you know.;)

I'm puzzled by the idea that Tom Woods should be involved anywhere near anything political. He is a great lecturer and we all love him, but he isn't a political creature and...thank the Lord!

Sometimes the job of a political operative is actually to play the bad guy (Dick Cheney) in the public's eye so the candidate can look pure. Jesse Benton, warts and all, may have actually have served the purpose of keeping the kooks at bay. I only have anecdotal knowledge from the side-lines, but, let me tell you, when I was traveling along side the campaign (grassroots work or Super PAC), there were the craziest people you could imagine (imagine it and then multiply it by 10!) walking up to Ron Paul and his staff and handing them big files of "research" on weird stuff. Just one of those people getting interviewed by the wrong person could have been a political disaster.

Jack Hunter is one of the brightest assets for liberty within our movement. Educate yourself before you say something silly again.

I do miss Jack's Youtube commentary. His videos broke down complex issues into brilliant digestible bits for average voters. Maybe Jack Hunter can team up with Ben Swann & company?

Never heard of Jack Hunter before this whole controversy started. I find it difficult to reconcile your description of the guy with the images of him wearing confederate mask. lol

Jack was, more or less, a shock-jock. It's a testament to his ability and intelligence that he's been able to make it as far as he has, given the litany of non-PC things he's done in the past.

Neo-confederists are poison, and are usually pretty silly.

I understand the view point, and can empathize with it when considering all of the relevant nuances and details, but America is totally incapable of doing that. What happened in the pre and post-war south -slavery, lynchings, systematic oppression of black people by local and state governments as well as private businesses and individuals- was so horrific and so ubiquitous, and so anathema to the founding principles of America that literally the ONLY thing to appreciate about the South is that it hated Lincoln and federal power. And even then, when you peel back that layer, they really only hated federal power because it threatened their Peculiar Institution.

The evils present in the South were so widespread and powerful that any accolades you'd wish to grant them would have to be accompanied by an unimaginable amount of justified scorn to be politically acceptable. Because of that, it's better to just punt on the issue. Slavery and oppression were terrible. To rid America of that plight, the Civil War was waged and a Republic of Suffering was created. There were no winners and there's no need to view the period with nostalgia. It was a terrible time in American history, and we came out of it with a too-powerful federal government but were able to eliminate hard-slavery.

Yep, that way Rand could actually end up doing less than his father. That's a great idea!

Well, using people like Jack Hunter who were associated with his father's campaign directly and a paid staffer, makes me think they aren't really forward thinking if we follow your line of thought. If Tom Woods doesn't have any past baggage like Jack does/did, then why wouldn't he be a good choice?

1. Because he has some of the same views on secession/the civil war that Jack had, which the media would of course paint as being "racist."
2. Because he's an anarchist and the media would also go nuts about that, asking Rand tons of questions over whether he's secretly an anarchist who wants to abolish the federal government.

Won't matter. Once associated, always associated.

It's sadly ironic that RPF thought he was too mainstream and mainstream thought he was too radical.

I don't think he's a racist.

You're probably right. The neocons and liberals will still harp on the fact that Jack co-wrote Rand's book. Jack resigning may have limited some of the damage, but certainly won't put an end to it.

Ah! So then yeah, it makes sense to avoid him like the plague. I haven't followed Tom Woods, and don't know his stuff. If Rand is seriously thinking about running in 2016, everybody on his staff would do well to remember how the media tanked his dad's campaign in Iowa. ESPECIALLY if Rand is trying to pick up any Democratic/Independent votes.

I don't think he was a racist, I don't think he was a mainstream, and I don't think he was a radical. I think he had a too-pleasant view of the pre-war South and a bombastic personality, along with an interesting disposition and a lot of intellect. My guess is that Jack's actually a pretty good guy who could have been a great asset to the movement had he not gone out of his way to just be so silly and offensive to the mainstream in the past.

Jack Hunter is a great paleoconservative columnist. He will be missed. BTW I'm really started to get irritated how 'paleo' has become an evil word in the MSM realm with negative connotations, when it's the farthest from the truth.

You never watched Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano? Hunter was a somewhat frequent guest on there. Before that, he was one of the best liberty Youtubers/bloggers.
