Is NBC Atheist

Maybe they were reciting the pre 1950 version?
I would prefer we dump the "pledge" and start reciting the Declaration of Independence

I agree.

"The Pledge" is a deification of the nation & a symbol of statism. Such deification of the nation is the precise reason why 10th amendment has been virtually erased, especially after the Civil War, & such deification encumbers on the primary right of the states ie the right to leave the union. It is because of such deification of the nation that talking about this basic right of the states is considered a sin & in effect, makes all states & their people slaves to the federal government which was never meant to be because UNITED States of America was more or less an EU-type arrangement (of course, not as sinister) where each state was an independent entity, a country on its own, in fact, back then the ONLY meaning the word "state" had was a "country/nation", it was only later on that it got divided into the two meanings that it has today ie 1) a country 2) a sub-division within a country

Declaration of Independence would definitely be better as it would hopefully teach children to respect & uphold each other's rights, I just wish it had read "......life, liberty & PROPERTY" instead of the ambiguous "Pursuit of Happiness" because as has been observed by many that the "right to one's property" is essential for people to emphasize on working hard to improve their lives instead of tending to socialist ways of wanting to freeload at the expense of other people.

I pledge allegience to the bottom line
Of the General Electric Corporation.
And to the locomotives which it builds,
The jet engines,
And the civilian and military aircraft they power,
Third world sweatshops building steam irons,
Nuclear power,
And perpetual war forever.

If this doesn't make every world you see or hear from NBC make perfect sense, think about it one more minute.

My personal Pledge of Allegiance:

"I pledge allegiance to the philosophy of individual liberty, in whatever land or among whichever people hold it sacrosanct. And to my family, whether by blood or by spirit, whose liberation from despotism makes my struggle worthwhile. In dogged and unrelenting defiance of Collectivism in all of its forms, I stand; one individual, under Yahweh, with mercy, peace, and brotherhood for all."

Even as a little kid the pledge just didn't feel right to me.

Many ardent libertarians are atheists as well. If people regardless of political affiliation loose a sense of what was and is intended when people use the word God, then liberty is not sustainable. A society of narcissistic sociopaths devoid of a sense greater one's self will cease to be free slipping into a hell pit of power mongers seeking control over one another.

Quite a leap you made there

I sure hope they are. We need all the logic and reason we can get in the media, even if it's coming from a decidedly liberal source.

I disagree that religion is necessary for liberty to exist, in fact I believe the exact opposite. Religion is government. It was the precursor to everything we despise. Religion has been instrumental in the formation of virtually every totalitarian government in human history. Just recently north korea, radical Islamic states, nazi germany, all used the persuasive power of religion to enable their causes. It is, by it's very nature, collectivist. It promotes emotion and "faith" (i.e. belief without reason) over logic and objective reasoning. This is why quite a few libertarians are atheist.

I honestly believe that our republic was formed out of disgust for religious institutions and their dictatorial powers (in alliance with the monarchies) at that time. The idea that America is a Christian nation is revisionist history. The founders were, in large part, fierce individualists. Jefferson was atheist himself, and even went so far as to rewrite the bible, removing any claims of divinity and such mythology, titled "the faith and moral teachings of Jesus christ" or something to that effect.

The only thing we need to pray for is the day we can elect a president who can openly admit he doesnt believe in talking snakes.

Shilling for war in the service of G.E. isn't liberal in the classical or modern sense. And logic and reason aren't anything you'll be getting out of the network any time soon.

I'd wish for more reputable bedfellowes, if I were you.
