Is a Nancy Reagan Endorsement Off-the-table??

Man, Ron had the chance to take the other candidates down a notch with that last debate question ("Would Ronald Reagan endorse you?"). He was the only one who could have said "Not only did he endorse me, he campaigned for me." I mean, he touched on it, but he really could have knocked that one out of the park.

I've made the point twice tonight already, so this will be the last time. I personally think the answer to the Reagan question was fantastic. He was able to mention that Reagan had already endorsed him in the past; but then, more importantly, he was able to make one of his "crazy ideas" more mainstream by suggesting that Reagan himself understood the importance of sound currency and the gold standard. It's a lot less kooky if Reagan thought it was a good thing.

"Just Say No" was Nancy's pet project and Ron Paul is for ending the war on drugs...

I don't think Nancy will endorse RP even if he wins the Repub nomination...

I agree, but remember: bringing back the gold standard isn't *technically* one of his planks anymore; it's ending the gov't monopoly on currency and allowing for competing currencies. Which is a happy medium for transition, or a good place to stay, even.

Ron was *on* Reagan's commission to study the feasibility of going back to the gold standard. Ultimately, he allowed himself to be swayed and didn't make it a policy point (as President) to go back to sound money.

IIRC, Ron wrote/delivered the minority report on the Gold Committee (or whatever it was called; I'm working one something else tonight and my memory is shot).

Yes, I think Nancy is yet another in the long line of "conservative" candidates/officials wives who make them "more liberal."

At this point I think I'd be trying to get Fred Thompson's endorsement and not worry too much about batty old Nancy Reagan.

Right, he already has the virtual endorsement of the deceased Ronnie, why bother with Nancy. Let's work on Freddie boy!
