Introduce yourself! Who, What, Where, Why!

i got started back when i saw freedom to fascism, started learning about money, and saw the paul giuliani exchange in a debate.

I first voted for RP in '88 as a result of Louisiana having to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21 (we were the last state to do so), and
then the penalty was to the drinker and not the seller.

After that I supported Pat Buchanan as he was the only conservative stressing that we did not need to be giving a free ride to the Europeans, Koreans, Japanese et al.

Supported Ross Perot, scurry cur dog got me along with charts and warning about direction of our economy.

I studied History and Economics. Paul F Kennedy's book got me - Rise and Fall of Great Powers.

Went to the State Convention twice and served as an Election Judge once,

Had to relearn Economics several years ago w/ Austrian approach. Ready to post an article, we need to get actively involved with
management of Wikipedia. I have made several edits recently and the ref vanished in two hours so the other side is active on this site. More to follow...

First of all, thanks to Jeremy from the chat for accepting my registration!

I am a Freshman at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and after years of swaying political beliefs I have finally decided that Ron Paul is the only person truly deserving of the presidential nomination. A quick personal history of myself; I was born in Illinois and resides there for most of my life, in High School I got sucked into Obama-mania and was super stocked when he got the Democratic nomination. Here's the thing though, I never actually really agreed with any of his policy...I was 15-16 and was simply overtaken by his rhetoric of hope and change. When he actually became President, it didn't take more then a month for me to realize I didn't agree with anything he was doing namely his expansion of the federal government, and his trampling of individual rights and freedoms in favor of a federal commune state. Quickly I became bitter, and realized that my personal views were far more right (but not overly so) then left.

The current group of Republican Candidates is way to extreme, Perry is in the race solely for power, Romney is fake and not trustworthy, Bachmann is an extremist and way to far right for my liking, Cain is nice but way to naive to run a country, and all the other candidates sway back and forth just like the incoming tide.

Paul, is the only candidate who sticks by his positions and I love it. When he was talking about lifting the embargo on Cuba and not inciting with Iran a couple of debates ago, I fell in love! His views on economy and foreign policy are 100% on par with mine. I feel his solutions are the only way to get this country back on track. I will gladly support him, and any other person who shares his political views. Go PAUL!

Thanks for the addition.

Unlike some other folks here, I've only been a Paul(ie) for about 4 years. I'm a 23 year old law student currently in my second year of law school at the University of Baltimore. I graduated Loyola University, Maryland in 2010 with degrees in history and political science.

I suppose my real conversion to a more Constitutional Conservatism (read: now labelled Libertarian) ideology happened after spending about 6 months studying abroad in Rome in the Fall of 2008 (during the election of Pres. Obama). I could make the "worldliness" assertion, but that's not necessarily what drew me to the libertarian mentality. Rather, I'd have to say that I realized how excellent America could be when I was away from it. Certainly there are problems in our system and terrible people holding far too much power, but the institutions are sound and the guiding principles secure.

So, I suppose that's as good an introduction as any. I plan to do my part for the Ron Paul movement in 2012 and make a pledge to Liberty. (@GovMatt on twitter) Thanks!

Welcome Matt, Glad to have you aboard!

Hi Everyone,
I am Carrie, a homeschooling, home birthing, doula, raw milk drinking mother of 5 here in the sunshine state. I have been a RP supporter since 08' an am looking forward to supporting him at P5 in a few days.

I think Dr Paul is the only candidate that supports my freedoms to live the way I want to live and I will support him all the way to the White House :)

Hi Fellow Ron Paul Supporters!

My name is Angie, I live in the lovely state of Colorado, where I am I mother to a 8 year old son (Ezekiel,)I have been married to my husband Barry for 10 years, and I work as an Executive Assistant.

I have been a Ron Paul supporter since my brother "unplugged" me in 2007 (thanks Mikey!) I started of my RP efforts small, mostly telling friends, sporting a bumper sticker, and attending rally's. Most recently I started a You Tube channel "Angie4RonPaul" and started making tutorial videos to help others Get Involved! I am also the leader for the Ron Paul Sign Bomb 10/10/11 for Adams County Colorado! Please check out my videos, I enjoy your feedback and ideas for new videos.

I've known about Ron Paul since '07 when he ran.

Hi :D

I would say the biggest things that got my attention was his desire to end the wars overseas, bring the troops home, end the failed war on drugs, and a host of other things.

And then when I heard this speech:

Greetings from Montgomery County, Texas,

My name is Kay and I've been lurking here for several months and decided it was time to come out in the open. I was laid off from my corporate job when the division I worked in was sold to another company. I'm working on starting my own business but I've had more time than usual to follow politics and current events. I wasn't a Ron Paul supporter in 2008, not because I was a neocon or had any negative feelings toward him. I think I was just too busy to see past the media black-out.

I support him now even if I don't agree with 100% of what he says because the government (federal, state, and local) has gotten so out of control that there needs to be a major course correction and I don't think any of the other candidates have the will or the desire to fight for the necessary changes. I've also been impressed by the fact that he was the only political figure that I know of that correctly predicted the financial crash.

I've never been much of an activist, I've always been very non-confrontational and had this idea that activism involved getting in people's faces. I want to do what I can to help, though.

Sorry about my late post. Been a libertarian since 2008 when I realized that human nature is good and government didn't need to control us. From that, I went to the economic argument and WHAMMO here I am. I learned about Ron Paul from a worn down 2008 bumper sticker. I asked my older brother, who encouraged me to become a libertarian and has worked with CATO, who he was and if he was a libertarian. I researched him and forgot until about December of last year when I became more politically active. Over the summer, I read Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, and Anthem, as well as 1984 and A day in the life of Ivan Denisovich (All anti-authoritarian books). I am still deciding whether I am an Objectivist or not.
I am in agreement with RP on most things. One issue I disagree with him on is immigration. I really hope that a new champion takes up the cause of liberty who is a great public speaker and can convince the public of libertarianism.

Welcome aboard. If you haven't all ready read The Law by F. Bastiat, For a New Liberty by M.N. Rothbard, Ethics of Liberty by M.N. Rothbard, or Our Enemy the State by A.J. Nock, I would highly recommend them all. :D Then once you read those you can come back and re-assess if you believe in Objectivism. (Personally, I've never really been a fan of Ayn Rand. She couldn't hold a flame to Rose Wilder Lane or Isabel Paterson...each their own though)

Well, I really do not think RP has changed his mind on immigration in regards to his '88 stance vis a vis open borders being the libertarian position in a society with a State. Of course that is a contentious argument here, but I really do not see how people can morally defend a position that violates private property rights.

On Ethics, Rothbard couldn't hold a flame to Ayn Rand. I'd suggest reading more about Ayn Rand, especially Viable Values by Tara Smith.

I'm not a fan of Objectivism. There are many positions which I find objectionable especially the pronouncements of non-western society as barbaric and her defense of the Israeli State's actions. I find she and by extension Objectivism too easily prone to bouts of war-propaganda & its entailing mass killing. There are a lot of good things to take from it, but I find the NAP, NP-Lockean Homesteading, and Natural Law far superior as an ethical model than Objectivism. However, like I said -- too each their own.

Hello All! I've been lurking here for a little while.
I actually finally came out of lurk mode because I wanted to send a private message to someone here.
So I guess now is a good time to make my first post and say hello.

I guess I started to really learn about Ron Paul this past Spring. I'm not sure why I didn't follow him as much last election. I guess my apathy towards politicians was pretty strong back then. Anyway, the more I learned about Ron, the more my apathy faded away. His honesty, consistency and integrity really stood out to me. He has been saying the same thing for 30 years.

One of the most amazing things I have noticed is how his message unites people. That gives me so much hope.
The message of liberty brings people together. And when the messenger is one who has proven himself to be honest and true and of good character, I think that is what gives the message the most energy. I hate to see people divided, and when people can come together from all different backgrounds and unite.... that is so powerful!

Well, that's all for now... just wanted to say hello.
I hope to post more as time goes on. (I'm a bit introverted so... probably won't post a whole lot. But I'll be lurking..)

:)

Dan from Michigan

My name is Dan and I live in west Michigan.
I am a libertarian and have been a supporter of Dr. Pauls for 8 years or so.
I've been an online soldier on sites like sodahead and facebook... driving my friends crazy with politics :)
I've known true freedom and I think you might agree that once you have tasted Freedom, nothing else is acceptable.
I know that a limited Freedom is no Freedom at all, and I want my daughter to have the opportunity to know true Freedom as I have.
To know Freedom as surely as we know our hearts will beat again and the sun will rise tomorrow... that is my wish not just for my daughter, but for you and yours as well.
To that end I will never stop.

Like Heinlein said...
"I am a free man, regardless of what set of ‘rules’ surround me. When I find them tolerable, I tolerate them. When I find them obnoxious, I ignore them. I remain free, because I know and understand that I alone bear full responsibility for everything I do, or chose not to do."
R Heinlein
I've never been in the military but have taken an oath to uphold protect and defend the Constitution of these United States from all enemies foreign and domestic... and I take it seriously.

I was directed to this site by a couple of new friends I met while waving signs, a big thanks to utahapocolypse and his better half!

Fair warning... I do have a habit of climbing on the ol' soapbox and preaching for hours, so now you are warned! LOL
I won't take offense at being told to shut up for a minute though...

Also, if anyone wants to know how to make 5'x5' signs/banners for around $10 I can help, the inital investment is around $20 for the first two and roughly $7 dollars each for the rest. I'll post some pictures when I figure out how... or am allowed, maybe a blog?

Anyhoo, I'm glad to be here and will help in any way I can...
Dan
brozak has left the building...

My name is Jeremy, I live in SoCal and work as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. I'm 41and have been a fan of Ron Paul since 98. In 2007 I was in Seattle when Hillary came to speak and was amazed at the 10 to 1 turnout of supporters for Dr. Paul in the mmm streets. You see.support for other candidates change on at day by day basis... But Ron Paul support continue to gain momentum.. the message of freedom and liberty rings just as clear today as it did over 200 years ago... today the media would rather hide or ignore the message of liberty... but the message the truth cannot be ignored any longer ron paul's time has come the things that he's be. ...en preaching for the last 12 years have been coming true... I've made a commitment to share Rons Paul's message with everyone that I hear that has a complaint about the way things are... its been keeping me busy! Loving what's going on here and happy to be a part of it. RP 2012. ***eat wild and sustainable:-)
