Jon, late 20's, New Mexico. I'm just now attempting to become politically aware as I have seen/heard things that are in glaring contrast what I believe in the mass media (and from my colleagues and coworkers) now that I've stopped to think about it. Here to get educated and see what other like-minded (maybe?) people have to say. If anyone has some suggestions for books to read to start becoming politically aware and educated, I'd appreciate the suggestions.

Hello all, John Q. Revere checking in, fighting the good fight in Los Angeles County.
I am the Lead Messenger for a new organization called 'Restore the Los Angeles County Republic', that is a non-profit, multi-partisan 527 group able to fund elections and win real people to public office.
Our main goal is to get all y'all fighting your battles around the country to now all focus on Los Angeles County with us, fight united in the largest county in the country.
When we all focus our energies on one area, one fight, Los Angeles, will we be stronger than anything this country has even seen. We will run and win real people for office, with 18 Congressional seats up for grabs in the country.
Help us help you. Victory in Los Angeles County will make national news and set a precedent to restore our Republic throughout the country. You will be able to tell any and all opposition and naysayers: "Look what happened in LA, they did it right."

What's a "middle" Republican? lol
Yeah,I know,I was a Hard core Republican all my life having been raised in a "self employment " environment. Having been selfemployed most of my adult life,Thinking far right just kind of came along with it.
But the last few years has not been very good to the republican party,and I am leaning to Independent or libertarian in the persuit of rights.
I am still a voting republican because I do believe in the numbers needed right now to eliminate the immediate threat to the constitution.

Having fought and been cut many times in fighting the liberty battle since Goldwater ran for President, I remember when there was a day when every red blooded American would have been proud to be president, and when Congressman were honored statesmen, not 'johns', prostitutes and pimps!
It is time to clean house and throw the bums out come 'Black Tuesday'! May the Lord keep us all in that day, and each and every day of this battle.
We have wasted nearly one year in pleading as a people disposed to suffer long! We have in good faith, but as a foolish grassroots lacking strategic acumen, fallen into the trap of begging from or even licking the hand of the wolf! Now we even await it's care and nurture of the sheep! In some cases thank-you notes have been sent to the wolves for their change of heart and promises to care for the sheep in the future!
When a free and energized people see liberty slipping away they will eradicate the wolf rather than seek it's protection. They will at last rise up and themselves give the warning sound as vigilant patriots, and in so doing provide in the only way possible for the true safety of liberty.

People I quoted...
First, they are 'founders', and taking a quote from the founders with which we agree, though problematical, is most often refreshing. You have chosen the seeming problematical approach to the authors, which is fine of course. Additionally when considering the founders, we often are called upon to defend what appears to be either the superficial meaning of the quote, or some disagreement with the author who was quoted.
Mainly of the founders I would ask latitude, in that their true positions are often mistaken, misquoted, or misunderstood. Further their positions were well thought out, well debated, quite sound, but also changed somewhat with exigencies, or in some lessor cases with deficient character.
To be brief and not get into the detailed side of what I respond with:
First, you state people, plural... on Adams I await your criticism, but have an inkling what it might be already. But, referring as you do, to Henry, and using the phrase "against the constitution", I will jump to the most known and remarkable demonstration of his opposition.
For about twenty-one of twenty-three days of debate in the Virginia legislature, Patrick Henry did rise to speak opposing the adoption of the document, but for very specific reasons... those being the presumption of the delegates against their instructions from the legislatures of the several states, that they represented the 'people' as a whole rather than the state legislature as a legal body, the latter being the only source of authority given the delegates.
In this he was correct I think. From that error we suffer constantly under the miss-application of the general welfare clause, which also felt Henry's 'wrath'. Basically along that line of thinking Henry opposed, nearly alone, the adoption by Virginia, a state seen as a shining beacon for the other states to follow.
However, in defense of Henry, when the state of disunity reached a fever pitch within a generation, and discontent with the state of affairs under the new constitution brought out considerable inclination to again take up arms against the central government and start over, Henry was consulted. His last speech, given while suffering intense sickness, unfit to travel, nevertheless was given after traveling, and in the rain. In this speech, nearly extempore as were many of his speeches, he clearly advised against taking up arms, but counseled that the bed they made, they should therein sleep, and change the document through the manner devised within the constitution itself, if they were so inclined.
It is with confidence that I quote those men, on the points I have used above, mainly because I see the wisdom in their words, and value the soundness of such light. Light based on truth is rare in these dark days.
One can wish that in these days we were debating as the founders, on the subjects you mention, rather than battling against perfidious scoundrels, so devoid of principle as to be elements of decay. Now we oppose blathering fools, devoid of knowledge, and ripe for the 'last days of Rome'!

Hello Patriots,
My husband and I own a small, certified organic dairy farm in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Most folks have no idea what's happening in the rural community. Family farmers are under a full-scale attack by the bureaucrats in D.C. I look forward to contributing to the discussion. Rural America has been left out of the loop for far too long, and as a result big government and big business has nearly destroyed us.

It is the same all across America RFD, and especially as the people become less inclined to seek knowledge, more inclined to seek pleasure, and more controlled by the party influence over constitutional precept! There are ways to fight back, but one must be careful not to become a small spec in the big clogs, and live to fight together, and another day. We cannot win this war one incarceration at a time, though I have the utmost respect for those in circumstances which force them to resist conscientiously.
May the Lord keep you and us all in these tumultuous days. We need to keep our minds and tools sharpened for the nomination process, for throwing out the bums when their term expires, and for electing statesmen from the citizenry rather than oath breakers in love with money and power!

However... there are perfectly good term limits now... only 2 years for the House. But the lazy electorate thinks they can remain lazy if they enact pretend 'term limits', for doing so only guarantees a long line of corrupt politicians ready to be voted in, and increases the integrity and vigilance of the electorate not one wit!
For if the electorate were vigilant, we would have the shortest of term limits... those limits so well thought out and exactly proscribed in the constitution!

Greetings, True Americans!
Since the days of Wilson and FDR, our freedoms have been methodically stripped away by every Democrat, and every Republican has simply been a time out from the destructive process, more or less. Simple conservatism is no longer enough to take care of this problem, because there is precious little left to conserve. I pray we can all find a way to rebuild what was once a great country.

Welcome RFD! I am the son of a second generation farmer, and my entire father's family has farmed our land here in MD for about 70 years now. I'm excited to read your post, since I just had a related discussion with my dad about family farms being under attack by the bureaucracy. :o
Personally, I think the issue is twofold. Family farms are being phased out by (A) government regulations, taxes, etc. that favor the mega-farms (Monsanto, etc.) and (B) the federal Department of Education subsidizing college tuition, which discourages some young adults to do the smart thing and stick around to work the farm rather than taking out the large amounts of debt necessary to complete the education.
I fear that both of these problems will only get bigger in the years to come, which is what the government wants -- the concentration of the food industry in the hands of a few companies who are in bed with politicians and bureaucrats. That is a goal that has persisted ever since the inception of the FDA...
