U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) recently introduced H.R. 131, a bill that would more comprehensively address the interstate transportation of firearms and ammunition for law-abiding gun owners.

Current federal law guarantees the right of law-abiding persons to transport firearms between two locations where they have a legal right to possessand carry them, regardless of state or local laws that would otherwise apply. The firearm must be cased or otherwise not readily accessible. Unfortunately, anti-gun local officials are using overly restrictive state licensing laws to harass and prosecute travelers who have made every effort to comply with the law, resulting in seized guns that are sometimes never returned, delayed travel, legal fees, and sometimes even unnecessary guilty pleas.

H.R. 131 would ensure the law has the effect Congress intended when it passed more than 25 years ago. Specifically, the legislation would make clear that transportation of both firearms and ammunition is federally protected, as well as expand the protections afforded to travelers to include "staying in temporary lodging overnight, stopping for food, fuel, vehicle maintenance, an emergency, medical treatment, and any other activity incidental" to the trip. Additionally, the bill would place the burden of proof clearly on the state to show that the traveler failed to comply with the law.

The NRA fully supports H.R. 131 and appreciates Rep. Griffith’s leadership on this important issue.

Please contact your U.S. Representative and ask him or her to cosponsor and support H.R. 131.

I took one look at the title and cringed - but this is actually good!

Currently due to the MD legislatures treachery, a long list of so called "assault rifles" can no longer be sold in the state. If you take a AR out of the state you can never bring it back in. You can't leave it to anyone in your will. If you bring a evil looking black rifle into the state, well, that's a felony :(

I really hope this passes! it would totally fuck with O'mally! :D

Unfortunately, my reps are worthless in this dept.

We gave up the right to new Class 3 weapons in exchange for this.

Of course, it never stopped the usual suspects (NY,NJ,IL,MD,MA,CA) from jailing and harassing gun owners moving through the state.

So yeah, it's about time it was addressed.

How about jail time for the cops and prosecutors who violate this law?

Oh...

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Anti Federalist again.

And the concept of 2nd Amendment does not address this at all? What part of "shall pass NO law" do they not fucking get? Oddly, interstate is technically the ONLY place the Federal Govt has legitimate authority as granted to it by the Constitution, and what do they do? Nothing short of directly violating the Constitution, as well as their own fucking precious Oaths to the Constitution. Lets be clear here. They have ZERO intention of protecting or preserving the Constitution.

EVERY RIGHT SHALL BE ABOLISHED IN THE NAME OF NATIONAL SECURITY

Great point Damian!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DamianTV again.

The Second Amendment has been trampled upon for decades; it is clearly irrelevant in the eyes of most Americans, especially those in government.

Most gun owners will say, "Of course we need to control who has machine guns and of course we need background checks!"
