Follwong news provide context for above poll question.

I think US needs a leader who can protect US economic and military interests without getting into a direct costly war with Israel.

US veteran on board 'Liberty' was flotilla passenger

Man who served on ship bombed by Israel during 1967 war is missing in aftermath of flotilla clashes

Published: 06.01.10

A US Navy veteran who was on board the USS Liberty, which Israel attacked during the Six Day War, is now missing after taking part in the conflict-ridden flotilla, US news agencies reported Tuesday.

Sixty-three year-old Joe Miduras, of the Texas town of Corpus Christi, has not yet made contact with his wife, Jean. She has so far remained unconcerned, however, saying she didn't think he had been hurt.

Miduras was a soldier on board the USS Liberty, which came under fire by Israeli warplanes and torpedoes on the fourth day of the 1967 war. As a result, 34 crew members were killed.

"We are racing toward the end of time."\We are living in a very dangerous time. The World Net Daily Intelligence Report states that the U.S. Military will take a posture in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It's unbelievable! Pastor Hagee April 5, 2010

Pastor Hagee friend of Presidents and US Senators earlier this month confirmed his strong opposition to General Patraeous's new policies towards the Palestinian/Israel conflict. General Patraeous has suggested recent Israeli policies regarding the expansion of settlements in East Jerusalem is tangentially putting US soldiers at risk in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This new focus by the United States armed forces has led to heated debate inside the White House.

U.S. had emergency plan for attacking Israel in 1967

By Amir Oren, Haaretz Correspondent

For some time, the United States had had an emergency plan to attack Israel, a plan updated just prior to the 1967 war, aimed at preventing Israel from expanding westward, into Sinai, or eastward, into the West Bank.

Second question, if it turns out that Israeli military has harmed US Navy veterans of USS Liberty or other Americans, what should be US reaction?

We can argue about right vs wrong, but since the US has not been attacked in said war, we have no business injecting ourselves into it.

i side with israel and democracy.

Turkey is a democratic republic. So you would in effect be siding AGAINST democracy either way. Oh, also Turkey officially has some of our nuclear weapons, while israel only has the undisclosed nuclear weapons we gave them.

i side with israel and democracy.

But it's more like a racist "democracy" with different rights for people of different races.
More importantly a massive liability on US economy and tax payers. I would not side with such a dumb experiment in violent racism.

i side with israel and democracy.

Israel is NOT a Democracy it's 110% Apartheid of the new millennium. It's the 1960's violation of civil rights treating all non jews as second class citizens in a cornucopia of data points.

The Israeli system of control includes separate roads, inequities in infrastructure, legal rights, and access to land and resources and land ownership/property loans.

This all besides the fact they control the embargo and sales of everything into Palestinian locations.

I'd prefer neither but turkey is a NATO ally, don't we have to take their side or leave NATO?

NONE!!!!!

Turkey can handle its battles, Israel is not as mega power as some claim here. If they decide to dance with the wolf i hope they know how to do the mambo..

i side with israel and democracy.

lol Are you the ONE vote... Looser! Turkey is a NATO member and has a much more free democracy then Israel ever will, they also don't murder innocent civilians and then call the world anti semitic because they wont support their actions.... :p

I'd prefer neither but turkey is a NATO ally, don't we have to take their side or leave NATO?

That is a troubling question.

I'm no fan of holy land apartheid because of damage its war fetishes and lobbies have done to US economy/job markets but now would be wrong time to start a new war front. Even if Tureky is a NATO ally, can't we find a loophole to just provide them moral support if such a war started.

I don't think we should get involved except perhaps as intermediaries helping to work out the issues.

Turkey has announced they will send another flotilla to Gaza escorted by the Turkish Navy!

The blind eye of the American News Media is disturbing wich proves more what many believed that Israel runs our networks...

The US shouldn't get involved at all, but it probably will...

Turkey is a member of NATO. It seems that the US would HAVE to support them, whether they wanted to or not. At least as long as the US is in NATO or Turkey wasn't expelled for retaliation against Israel, which brings me to my next point...

More likely, however, I could see the US withdrawing from NATO to support Israel. Not that I mind US withdrawal from NATO, but not for the wrong reasons. Withdrawing from NATO to support the Israeli government's stupidity is most certainly for the wrong reasons.

Or, maybe the US could push for Turkey's expulsion from NATO so the US could keep its entangling alliances AND continue with its unconditional support of Israel (kinda like having one's cake and eating it too, I guess,) but I'm not sure many NATO countries would go along with that...
