Not by my definition. Although you could make that case for your definition.
To me to "seal the deal" in your example, you need:
Only if he planned to sell the underwear to someone the following winter. If he buys the underwear with the intention of profiting at a later date, that's an "investment."
If he buys the underwear to stay warm the following winter, that's just "brains".![]()
Or the profit from buying the underwear was such that he wouldn't have to be cold the next winter.
