This is a prime example of crap we get from our Michigan State Campaign Committee. It's all about what grassroots needs to do and that everything is up to us, however, no where does it state what THEY have planned! No mention of the upcoming "Defending the American Dream" conference that will be taking place in Livonia, Mi on Jan 12! Two days before the Michigan Primary! Fortunately, grassroots are already on it and will be hanging signs and lining up on every expressway enroute to this conference including the conference itself. Speakers at the conference are: Ron Paul, McCain, Guiliani, Romney, Thompson, and Huckabee!

No where did they mention when we will start seeing some TV ads? Nothing. Just Iowa was a bummer and our fate is up to you!

January 4, 2008

As you're watching the Iowa returns, we know you must be experiencing the same range of emotions we are. Disappointment, frustration-but also hope. Hope, because we know that over 10,000 Michiganders have volunteered to spread Dr. Paul's message of freedom, peace, and prosperity statewide . Frustration, because we learned 10,000 is not enough, as Dr. Paul lost in Iowa (a population of just over 1 million) with just under 12,000 caucus-goers. Hope, because you know, as we do, that Michigan is winnable.

Again-Michigan is winnable. We are 11 days away from the primary, and on the surface, the numbers seem alarming. If in 11 days, we still have the same 10,000 supporters, we will not win. If in 11 days, we double our support to 20,000, we will not win. Even if we multiply our support by 10, to 100,000, we will not win.

It will take 500,000 votes to win Michigan for Ron Paul.

But do not be discouraged. This amounts to 50 voters for each of you-and we can do this.

How many people do you interact with in each day?

How many opportunities to spread the name and message of Dr. Paul do you have every day?

For your comparison, there are 100 slim jims in every pack. Many of you have been canvassing and getting out multiple packs each day. We have thousands of packs of them coming in, so everyone needs to do their part to grab a package of literature and get them out in their communities. We need to knock on doors, and really start spreading the word in our neighborhoods. We need to get everyone in contact with your county coordinators, and start signing up as precinct captains, taking responsibility for getting out the vote in your immediate communities. We need to work together, or we will fall apart.

We have one shot to win, and 11 days in which to make it happen. We CAN do this. You CAN help us achieve victory on January 15.

The fate of Michigan is in your hands. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for freedom, peace, and prosperity; Ron Paul is truly "Hope for America." Please join our efforts to elect the only presidential candidate who can revive Michigan's economy, bring our troops home, and restore our civil liberties. How many voters can YOU reach?

Wait till you see the FCC reports - Grassroots is gonna flip ove the money that was spent...they are just ineffcient - not bad people - and they will not listen

Ugh see that makes me angry. What are they doing with the money we gave them?

Some grassroot supporters have dropped everything to go help out NH with OLFD.

What sacrifices has the official campaign made? What creative ideas are they coming up with? Why do they think we did so bad in Iowa? How are we going to make up for lost ground?

Honestly I think my husband and I are done donating for a while. If I gave my money to any other company and I saw this poor return on my investment, I would stop giving them my money. They haven't given me a reason to want to donate more in my opinion.

Recently I have been giving more to the grassroot ideas such as the blimp and Ronpaulaircorps. This is more effective than anything the campaign has come out with. It's totally pathetic and I am angry.

I think you're mostly right. I don't think it is reasonable to blame the entire loss on the campaign, but they do deserve the largest share of the blame.

Paul needs to hire professional and competent help immediately. This has been a problem for a while. I wish Grassroots could somehow force the issue.

As an earlier poster said, the goal is to get elected.

Who's to Blame?

I think part of the problem is this is being seen as a blame game. While it's true we must point out the issues before coming up with solutions, I think all of us want to get the next step underway.

Millions of dollars have been sent in to the official campaign, and from many people who are not in a position to just let that money go without accounting for it. We need to put pressure as best we can to get it spent efficiently, and we need to hold these people accountable for the specific things they are failing to do.

It is awfully late in the game for professional advertising... remember that a lot of state delegate registration deadlines have passed, deadlines to become a Republican, all these early dates which should have been the focus. It helps little to get the word out to a populace that cannot actually get him elected!

Ron Paul needs to be more firm in his interviews when they ask him about his support. Whenever the interviewer asks why he has such a huge online support, he always says, "I don't know! I am more surprised than anyone"

Talk about weak. That stuff needs to quit. He needs to be more confident about his supporters and his message. You don't hear Huckabee or Romney saying they don't know where their support came from. They attribute it to their ads or something the campaign is doing. This makes their campaign look strong and working properly.

RP's campaign looks too weak. They don't set up press conferences, they don't even send out press releases on the last day of the quarter, and the commercials thus far are sub par. I think a graphical design college student could do better.

Maybe I need to call them. They have lost their common sense. This campaign needs run like a marketing business. You invest in things that put out the biggest return. You don't just run a TV ad to run a TV ad especially when the ads are worst than those on YouTube.

Dr. Paul is advancing a message of decentralized government. He wants to put more power in the hands of the people. That's what this grassroots movement is supposed to reflect. Do you realize that we are a living advertisement in this campaign? Unlike the other candidates, Dr. Paul is taking a hands-off approach to this entire effort. He's empowered us to either savor the thrill of victory or suffer the agony of defeat. But, whatever we get, it's up to us to make it happen.

This is how he would run the country, as well. He would return most of the power back to the states. This is such an important endeavor we're undertaking. We must prove that we can still govern ourselves just fine if allowed to. If we can become a harmonious and progressing body by Election Day, Dr. Paul will be able to hold us all up as proof that he who governs least governs best.

I'd like to propose that we become an actual microcosm of Dr. Paul's governing. Let's organize ourselves by state. Then each group of supporters from each state will elect/select someone from their group to act as their representative. The representatives will work with each other on our behalf and we will agree to accept and abide by their directives. Some will lead, the rest will follow, but we ALL will win.

I'd just like to add something to this very long thread.

Everyone seems to be making too much out of Iowa.

It's Iowa.

That about spells it out. Ever been to Iowa? If not, then you're lucky. (No offense to any non-retarded Iowans here.)

Get over it. The grassroots is doing just fine. The campaign is doing so-so and could do better, but really...it's Iowa people. It may be the first, but it's not the last word. Actually, it's an anomaly and not indicative of the rest of the country. Not at all.

The gloom and doom is killing me.

If the campaign screwed up so badly, please anyone share what you would have done differently that would have made a difference in Iowa.

Well it sounds like you have things in hand. I would like to see the campaign interact more with the grassroots. It would energize the grassroots and make everyone feel that their efforts are in the right direction and appreciated.

Go Ron Paul!!

What are they doing with the money we gave them?

There is no shortage of people in DC with no skills, no experience, no knowledge who are lying arrogant incompetents who are ALSO good at senselessly throwing money at problems.

Tell me something DJ, and George. What the fuck were you guys going to do that would've changed the outcome of Iowa in 2 days? Explain that to me.

Gonna make phone calls? It was done.

Gonna buy TV Air time with 2 days to go? Good luck with that.

Gonna drop something in the mail? It would've arrived on Monday.

Nothing would've changed it. This idea is about 60 days late to the party. If it would even help at all. HQ hasn't paid attention to a god damn thing anyone here has ever asked, or screamed at them. How the fuck is some small band of merry Paulites all of the sudden going to get access to all the info.

They can't even coordinate like some of you are thinking with the grassroots because of laws. And Goerge, don't give some crap about "oh something big is coming". I don't wanna hear anymore speculative bullshit from any of you. If you have an inside track and know what is happening, spill it. Don't sit there and make yourself feel important. Everyone on this board works there asses off. Calling yourself "heavy hitters" is fucking laughable in my book.

DJ and George, looked at what their skills are, what they could--and could not--best contribute and acted accordingly. The lying, arrogant incompetents at HQ don't have that much sense. DJ and George have done great work for the cause with RonPaulRadio.com and attempts to organize and help coordinate (not dominate) the grassroots.

There is some skill at this. Look at the polls. We know from Kent's press conference that they do internal polling. What did the crosstabs say? Where were we strong, weak, what demographics were saying what issues were important and deciding how they were going to vote, and what then, after that analysis was the strategy to move voters? Does anyone at HQ even know what this means?

I've been posting this in different forms for months. I laid out the strategy for us to win DC (before HQ sabotaged it) by following Elections 101. There are some very, very basics that are completely lacking.

Case in point: wasting money attacking Huckabee (the misleading evolution crap, the offensive immigration ad contrary to Dr. Paul's positions, the paying Arkansas critics to bad mouth Huckabee in Iowa, etc.) pushed Dr. Paul's independent supporters into the welcoming arms of the Obama campaign without denting Huckabee's support and moved us from a likely third with Fred giving a concession speech.

If HQ did NOTHING we would be better off than with them doing what they do.

I apologized and defended them for many, many months. Campaigns take some time to get their stride, make their mistakes and learn from them, but some weeks ago we passed the point were they can still keep making the same mistakes consistently before it would affect results. And it has.

SO Easy.... A CAVEMAN GETS IT!

I think we will have to rethink opposing Mental Retardation testing of the general public. Looking at Iowa I think the problem is much bigger than we ever thought.

The results give me pause, looks like we are headed for the great deprression 2 with no way to avoid it.

I hope we do better in NH.

Bradley,

Thanks for all your posts. I learn something everytime I read one. There is a local radio personality that was a campaign professional for many years. I really can't stand the guy but I'm sure much of his antics are for effect. What I can't deny is that much of what he spouts is deadly accurate. I've come to repect the fact that he knows the game. I get the sense you do too.

I have 2 questions that are somewhat related.

1) Do you think better coordination between an effective HQ campaign staff and grassroots would significantly improve our chances of nomination?

2) How can we at this level best effect that?
