How To Market Ron Paul In 2012

Hey gang,

Ryan Moran here.

Over the last five years, I've had an at least somewhat successful career as an internet marketer. Through that time, I've developed skills for marketing online, and I believe that they can be used to spread the message of Ron Paul. And because I am seeking renewed purpose in my life, I am willing to put my career on hold and work with Ron's team should it come to that in the coming months.

The goal of this post is two fold: one, to publicly let Ron know that I'm available to be hired onto his marketing team should he decide to run in 2012. And second, in the event that I'm not lucky enough to join Ron's official team, at least they will know exactly how to get this done effectively.

At the moment, the best online channel for direct marketing is on Facebook. There is a new trend in online advertising that is demographic targeting. That is, targeting people according to their age, sex, likes and dislikes. This is huge for direct marketers, and channels like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Plenty Of Fish have made it easier than ever.

I highly recommend that the Ron Paul campaign, whoever might be involved (call me, Ron), should implement demographic targeting VERY heavily. Very, very heavily.

Here's why...

Most voters make decisions based on a single issue. For some, it's abortion. Others, the economy. The masses are not educated like most of us are... but in order to accept Ron's message, some education is necessary. Most people don't get that the government can't just give you stuff for free.

The trouble is, it's very difficult to hit people where it matters in a 30-second TV ad. Yes, you get the masses, and it works, but you don't hit them intimately. Direct demographic marketing has changed that.

Today, if you "like" gay marriage on Facebook, I can pretty much guess where you stand on the issue. If you're listed as "Christian" or you "like" Billy Graham, I can guess where you stand on abortion. If you have a LinkedIn profile, you're probably against income taxes. And on and on...

By harnessing this data, you can send specific ads to each person and explain to them exactly why Ron Paul is the best pick for them.

Here would be an example campaign:

A 34-year old woman with two kids and is listed as Christian and has "going to church" listed as one of her hobbies is probably pro-life. She would see a Facebook ad that says, "Are You Pro Life? Click here to see how we can protect life in America." Or something like that...

The ad would take her to a page with a 1-minute video of Ron explaining that abortion should be decided on the state level and that we should overturn Roe v. Wade. At the the end of the video, she is encouraged to leave her email address to learn more about Ron Paul. And the education cycle begins.

This can and should be done for each and every important issue.

You can niche it down to folks who "like" Mitt Romney, and then have an ad that compares Romney to Ron Paul. You could target people who like the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, or the health care bill.

Furthermore, voters can be targeted by LOCATION. Which means that we can have ads being run to every single person as listed in Iowa, New Hampshire, or Nevada.

If you wanted to get even more specific, you could start taking this exact approach on mobile phones, although my experience there is not impressive yet.

This approach works best when it's narrowed down to a specific people group or interest, rather than getting mass appeal. However, if you target multiple groups, you start to reach the masses.

The second part of this approach is in getting the new lead educated. This is one thing that Ron didn't do a very good job of in 2008... the email lists that were generated were not used to educate. However, with email follow up sequences easier than ever, you can drip new videos to the voter and get them learning about different issues and why Ron Paul is the best choice for president among all the options.

The important piece is that you can begin the education cycle for many, many people. If you get them on an email list after watching a 1 minute video, you can build a list very quickly and very cheaply. Heck, it might even turn a profit - once someone is captured and educated, they are likely to donate. And since Ron is already popular on the internet, the viral spread of a good direct marketing campaign cannot even be measured.

Ron and team, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help.

Sincerely,
Ryan

Thats some good advice u got there, the internet will play a HUGE role next cycle and this is an area we MUST dominate.

We definitely need people that are good at marketing Ron Paul to others. By the way, I have a thread on this board that talks about marketing Ron Paul to others, though it's more theoretical and less practical. You can find it by clicking the link in my signature. Comment on the thread with your thoughts if you wish. I really do hope the campaign gets some people that are experienced in marketing though. It would do us a lot of good.

Ryan, as an SEO/IM guy myself, I think you're exactly spot on. And I think it's best we take the initiative ourselves instead of waiting for the campaign.

Idea: We start building a marketing infrastructure now. We decide what niches to target, what websites we need to build, what content we need written, then we seek volunteers from the grassroots to start putting it together. If we need money, we draw up a proposal to present to the grassroots, raising money via ChipIn or PayPal. Any crowd-funded projects would be 100% transparent, with every penny spent justified to the grassroots on this forum. We would also post all relevant statistics, so everyone can measure our progress. Later, we could see about offering parts of the structure to the official campaign, if they decide it's worth pouring money into. Or we keep it a completely grassroots project.

Thoughts?

(And Ryan check your PM's.)

Regarding networks, Gage and I have created a massive Facebook network, you are of course in the Admin Group already. I know Jordan does SEO too and during the elections season several attack websites originated from here.

Hey gang
Ryan

I just want U 2 Know. I'm not in this for anyone. I'll take a bullet. That is history. This is it. Ron Paul 2012 !! But seriously, there is no racism, there is no I dunno, there is no maybe ... it's Ron Paul 2012 !!! This is America ~ !! Yeeeeehawwwwwww

I know there's people dressin' like me. No ?

People have called for it time and time again. I'm will make a tech subforum for discussion on internet freedom/seo/general technology.

Is internet freedom different than individual freedom ? Comeon' , this is the NWO. Even Obama said we have a stake. Own it !! YeeeeeHawwww America !!!! In God We Trust .... Woof Woof !! LMAO

(call me, Ron)

NO! Be proactive and call them yourself! Please!

I can't stress enough how important it is that we realize that getting votes it's like selling a product. Our product is Ron's message and the customers are the voters and the money are the votes. It's paramount to realize this!

And how do people buy most of the stuff? They buy it not because of logic, well some do, but most buy it because of how they feel about the product. What the OP is suggesting is that we listen to the way people feel about Ron's message and we try and have them hear the message in a way they'll feel good about it!

God I hope his campaign understands this.

Thanks everybody, for the feedback.

I'm not really sure how SEO would play into the campaign except to put out good press, and we could manipulate the search results for OTHER candidates to give them bad press. Doing things like ranking for "Ron Paul 2012" isn't going to do much good unless we're fighting off haters.

Anyway, does anyone know how I can get in touch with the campaign and offer my services once he announces?

Great post.

As an experienced AM/Lead Gen guy myself I have been having similar thoughts as the OP since Ron's last campaign. I also have a lot of friends in the industry who support Ron Paul. I see no reason why we can't use our expertise in the 2012 run. I would love to be part of it.

Great idea!! Facebook actually makes this really easy because you can target your ads to people based on what their likes are...

In the general everyone should have a bumper sticker, t-shirt, pin/button etc, stamp for dollar bills, and yard sign.

Then billboards, tv ads, radio ads, newspaper ads.

But in the primary I think it's canvassing, phone canvassing, direct mail, and targeted marketing like this.

Just want to give this idea a little bump... Are any of you still around (Ryan, Christopher)? I am still very interested in contributing my skills to this project. I have vast experience selling millions of dollars worth of leads and products online. I really think we can do something substantial here.

Yes. Actually a few of us have already started some SEO/marketing projects for RP2012 along the lines of the above. We think it best to coordinate via private Facebook groups to start, then via private Ron Paul Club subforums, one per project, once we identify people who want to be significantly involved. These types of projects can be countered by anti-RP people if too many details are shared in public. In a day or two I'll shoot a message with details to everyone who posted in this thread showing interest.

It would be great if we had the library of videos Ron had on his website for the issues for 2008. Those would be perfect to a test build.

Great. After seeing Ron in person at Webster Hall the other day, I'm more excited than ever to help out.
