How to Boost the 18-29 Youth Vote, Guaranteed

This is simply to expand (on a new thread) an idea suggested by tsai3904 here on RPF:

I'm not much into hyperbole, but when I read this idea, I realized it just had to be shared far and wide. This is an entirely actionable tactic by the grassroots, that can be the difference between the tepid or moderate vote totals from 18-29 voters, and numbers that could yield maximum results. Forgive me if it's already been suggested, but then perhaps it bears repeating.

Ron Paul has a secret weapon in young voters, but it's unreliable, because young supporters don't reliably go to the polls. In Iowa, the 18-29 turnout was 12%, in NH it was 15%. We can thus reasonably only project a modest 12-15% turnout for Paul from that demographic. Those are the hard numbers, based on actual contests this year.

BUT....what if the grassroots went out and got their votes before the primaries, so the youth vote didn't have to go to the polls? What if we made their 'turnout' much more reliable, by going out to them?

Absentee or early voting is still possible in many or most of the states (see below), and is doable by the grassroots, because the focus would be on one age demographic, instead of the general population. Several approaches---staging youth rallies/events, college town canvassing, door to door, mail campaigns to known young Paul supporters, aggressive carpooling to such events and efforts, etc., you know the drill. Canvassers or organizers could use the activities to get young voters to fill out the appropriate documents (sometimes on the spot) and mail them in. This could turn the 15% representation into 30% or more, depending on how effective the campaign was per state.

This will definitely combat the "young people are unreliable problem" and GUARANTEE higher vote totals. We need to take advantage of EARLY VOTING.

These states have 'no excuse' early voting:

Arizona
2/2 - 2/24

Arkansas
5/7 - 5/21

District of Columbia
3/19 - 4/2

Florida
1/21 - 1/28

Georgia
2/13 - 3/2

Illinois
2/27 - 3/19

Indiana
4/9 - 5/7

Louisiana
3/10 - 3/17

Maryland
3/24 - 3/29

Nebraska
4/10 - 5/14

New Mexico
5/8 - 6/2

North Carolina
4/19 - 5/5

Ohio
1/31 - 3/2

Oklahoma
3/2 - 3/5

Vermont

South Dakota and Wisconsin also have early voting too (I just haven't been able to find out when it starts for those states).

early voting starts today in Florida. Here is an article on it: http://www.cape-coral-daily-breeze.com/page/content.detail/id/528579/Early-voting-opens-today.html?nav=5011

Florida has some huge universities, I would think kids could be corralled in droves to go vote if enough people hit the campuses. Let them know they can be game changers, part of a real revolution, and to go vote now! Have all the info on hand and so forth.

edit: also starts in vermont

Bout to post this on the UF Youth for Paul page

Is there anyone on this board from Vermont? Can we get a mod to rename this thread to something involving "Early voting" with an urgent tag?

7am on a saturday for south carolina... good god i dont think young people will show up from last night's drinking and xbox session.

This....this......this is the best idea I've heard so far for GOTV for young people! We must do this!

We need to get this more organized ASAP. Figure out if there are colleges with Youth for Ron Paul in Vermont and the other states. Florida has a bunch of campuses with Y4RP but it's really short notice.

If we already know only 1 in 7 young Paul supporters are going to show up, why keep trying to get them to? That's why it's simpler to just go to them first, with the voting paperwork, and have them just fill it out (or whatever the details are in a given state), than to try to talk them into going to the polls. (Okay, you do both, but you advocate that they just go ahead now and do the paperwork to be done with it.)

The priority of the focus on this group, for an early voter drive, should be 1) pre-identified Paul supporters, 2) locations where the demographic concentrates (campuses, college towns, concerts), 3) stage events attractive to the demographic (concerts with pro-liberty bands or acts, et al). Remember, this is mostly very friendly territory, easy to 'sell' an absentee/early vote effort to. Why this concept was not widely talked up before, I'll never understand.

How are we able to get 10,000 signatures in Virginia, but we can't do this?

I would assume the easiest audience for grassroots to reach online is the youth through social media like Twitter and Facebook. We should focus on that while the campaign works on traditional GOTV efforts.

I do like the idea of college early voter drives though. Combine it with pizza and beer and college kids will do just about anything haha!

We need to be careful. I could see some election officials throwing out votes if they could be construed as having been bribed with pizza, beer, etc. I love this idea though and want to figure out how we can execute it flawlessly.

How are they going to do that? It's not bribery, it's a voting party! :)

I guess it depends on how you early vote in these states...I've never early voted, I don't know if it's a mail thing or show up somewhere or what.
