^^^^ That's the kind pictures that gave me a wake-up call that made me abandon my military ambitions when i was younger ^^^^^

I know a guy who did that and they now refuse to pay for his schooling. I can't remember the exact reason they came up with, but it means that he spent all that time overseas fighting an undeclared war only to come back and find himself back where he was when he graduated from high school.

Seriously, the recruiters are blowing smoke up your bro's azz....... I hope he knows this..

The first thing they will do is make your brother take an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and the last thing they will want him to do is actually defend it.

I would not let him become a cop either. They get asked to do all sorts of crazy and unconstitutional things too. He should not become a firefighter either. He might see some things like what is in those pictures.

Did I miss something? Are most libertarians against serving their community? When did "we are against interventionism and going to a war that is not in self defense" turn into anti-serving-your-country?

Totally agree. It seems that most of the responders have no idea what they are talking about.

Hunter Gatherer, you said you do not want your naive little brother joining the military for the wrong reasons. This begs the questions: what are the right reasons for joining; and what would you force him to do?

There is a big difference between the different branches of the "military",

if you are going to be unable to keep him from joining, have him join the Air Force.

Also, there are two ways you can go in, one is with a specific job code and the other is under a "general category".

DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD
DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD
DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD
DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD
DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD
DO NOT LET HIM JOIN UNDER THE GENERAL CATEGORY METHOD

The recruiters will do everything they can to convince you to join under the general category method.

This allows them to place you in security forces or food services.

Security forces is the massive infantry of the Air Force. You will be on the ground guarding convoys and working in prisons.

Go with a specific job code and if they BS you about how those jobs aren't available right now, THEY ARE LYING. Just tell them "ok, just give me a call when they become available" they will call you a few months later with the job you wanted.

But he probably wont be asked to make those types of things happen, if he's a firefighter or a local cop vs. Military soldier.

Being responsible for and participating in the actions that result in gruesome deaths (soldier), and having to witness gruesome deaths (firefighter) are 2 different topics altogether. It's more about morality, than it is about "seeing things you don't like".

Probably won't? Yet you also bring up morality? You aren't arguing based on principle, obviously.

The right reason to join the military in my mind is to defend the constitution and american soil.
I don't like to force anyone to do anything that they dont want to.

Like danno said im just trying to give him all the info I can find. I don't want him to make his decision off of what some recruiter told em.

Sorry for using the word probably

How often do you hear of a firefighter being ordered to kill someone, for his job? How often do you hear about a cop being ordered to kill someone? (occasionaly, hence the use of the word, probably) How often do you hear about a soldier being ordered to kill someone?

Get it? got it? Good :)
