OK, so it is the Saturday during the conference that Ron is speaking.
But John Dennis, who chairs the California Republican Liberty Caucus and is a Paul supporter, said his candidate has had somewhat of a rough time getting a foot in the door of the convention.
"We talked to (State GOP chair Tom) Del Beccaro before anybody was booked for this and they went and confirmed Bachmann,'' he said. While they said she would be a draw, "they told me, "I don't know if we'll sell tickets for Ron Paul."
Dennis says his candidate's success -- coming within a few hundred votes of Bachmann in the Iowa straw poll -- has been ignored by the some party leaders. And as we reported yesterday, a recent Pew study showed that coverage of the Paul presidential drive has been studiously sidestepped by media, especially cable TV.
"I think he's upsetting the apple cart. The Republican Party in California is the biggest one in the country -- and the fun stops in Washington if Ron Paul comes to town,'' Dennis said, a factor that he said worries "anyone who's upwardly mobile in the GOP."
Del Becarro told us this week that he has been working hard to get all the GOP presidential candidates to the events.
We've contacted Del Beccaro for comment and will post his comments on the latest.
