Has anyone ever eaten wild boar meat?
Yes, and as much as I can! It's onolicious!!
The
wild pigs out this way are butchered into small pieces, soaked overnight in a shoyu/garlic/onion/etc. marinade, then smoked, then frozen.
When time fo' kau kau
it's cooked a second time fried -and often with sweet onions. We fry ours w/oil & onions and like it a bit krispy kine.
(
smoked then fried is the
only way the family/friends eat the wild ones out here -others may eat 'em differently but I haven't run into them)
The
domestic pig out this way are done any number of the usual ways. Hawaiian imu, Texas BBQ, etc.
then:
Fun fact:
Hawaii hunters/farmers will often set trap for wild pigs, castrate the males, and then release them back into the wild. The claim is it makes for better meat when harvested and of course the population aspect. Yes, all by themselves with no "help" from the government.
At 1:35 ol' porky here tells this trapper what he thinks about all that.
The person who posted the trap video says:
Not much to say about that. You can only eat so many, and they are destroying our farm, so this one will be caught another day to be eaten or live a life of happiness out in the wild. And, the state of hawaii won't poison him to die a horrible death in days or shoot him from a helicopter to rot in the sun...if he is lucky.
Magnificent animals.
