Freddie Gray severed his own spinal cord

I'm not sure why people are so gung-ho to blame the police right off the bat. We don't even know what happened.

I've actually got a lot of sympathy for the police. Can you imagine if your job every single day had you dealing with the worst people society has to offer? It must be really taxing on them mentally to wake up every single day for 40 years to be cursed at by bums and ever be fearful that someone could pull a gun on them from under the dashboard. It's probably especially hard in these inner city communities with sky high murder rates where the population has no respect for you, and would actually cheer your death.

I don't live in a high crime area, so maybe I don't have the right to talk. But the cops have always been very fair to me. They've let me off the hook for offenses that they really should have booked me for, and tried their best to ensure my safety, and the safety of people around me.

It's just how I was raised, but I always treat them with respect. They are always "sir" or "ma'am", and I do whatever they tell me to. I'll definitely raise my own kids to do the same. They've done a great job with crime in my hometown and when I've called them, have been very receptive and responded right away.

I don't think we get anywhere by condemning the cops and pouring on hatred and vitriol. I think it's better to build up a relationship between them and the community they serve. There are a lot of concerns about police militarization and low recruitment standards. We can work with local governments and police organizations to implement reforms and create a better situation.

They did it to themselves.

I wouldn't want to be a cop in Baltimore, but these people choose the profession and should act professionally. I have no doubt in my mind that the job is especially hard for them especially in very poor and high crime areas. But a person has to do the job they signed up for, and do it with a smile on your face because you are being paid.

There is no excuse for severing a man's spinal cord when your life is not in danger. And yes, the cops have been very fair to me too in my time in the US. Have had 3 stops of any kind in 12 yrs and the one last 2 weeks, he gave me a pass even though I wasn't a hot chick driving 12 miles above the speed limit. I think it has something to do with the area and the vibe they are getting from a suspect. They say 70% of human communication is non verbal.

I'm not sure why people are so gung-ho to blame the victim right off the bat. We know damn well what happened.

I've actually got a lot of sympathy for the victim. Can you imagine if your job every single day allowed you to fuck people up, even kill them, and get away with it completely? It must be really taxing on the rest of the population to constantly live in fear that someone with a badge could pull a gun on them and do exactly that. It's probably especially hard in these inner city communities where the cops have no respect for you because they know people there don't have $10,000 lawyers on retainer, and would actually cheer your death.

I'm just another copsucker, so I don't have the right to talk. But the cops have always been very fair to me because I went into debt to drive a shiny new car, and have a $10,000 lawyer on retainer. Because of this, they've let me off the hook for offenses that they really should have booked me for, and tried their best to ensure my safety, and moved on to find easier victims.

It's just how I was raised, but I always treat them with respect, and they only respect the prospect of being faced with a lawsuit. They are always "sir" or "ma'am", and I do whatever they tell me to. I'll definitely raise my own kids to serve the state like this as well. They've done a great job with getting away with this in my hometown and when I've called them, have been very receptive and responded right away because I live in a wealthy neighborhood.

I don't think we get anywhere by condemning the victims and pouring on hatred, racism, and vitriol. I think it's better to build up a relationship between them and the community they live in. There are a lot of concerns about police militarization and low recruitment standards. We need to elect a president who will hire an AG to aggressively prosecute every single one of these cases of police misconduct.

Fixed it for you.

This is satire, right?

I wouldn't be surprised by any motive to keep one's self out of prison. He could have easily rammed his head into the interior of the vehicle so as to cop a future plea deal for excessive force. Recently, there was one individual who smeared feces all over himself so as to avoid arrest. Clearly, this Gray character wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed on the account that he sold heroin to his fellow African Americans. With that said, we need more evidence than just corroboration from one fellow rider. The burden of proof is on the police to disprove their involvement.

Added to ignore list.

You have obviously never dealt with prisoners/suspects under arrest. They "go limp" all the time to make you drag them in a sign of protest. They also injure themselves all the time in order to go to the hospital instead of jail.

I wonder, where do you live? Do you live in a ghetto, or perhaps do you live in a lily-white town far removed from all these things you claim to be such an expert about?

NOW, let me clear, I'm not claiming I know what happened, however, you don't either so stop pretending you do or that you know the first thing about dealing with the "urban youth". These cops might be guilty, if so, I say send them to jail, well, I mean I'll give them their trial and all, but how about we make sure we actually know what happened first eh?

Take this shit to the cop sites dude. Your bosses created these urban plantations that your ilk harvest for your paychecks FFS. Don't act like every damn cop doesn't know what they are getting into. Go be a dentist you non-hacking whiner.

ok, everybody do this with me. I'm going to fling myself into the corner to try and sever my spine...on 3...1..2...

ouch...didn't work..

again..on 3..

brb..i gotta pee.

Anyone with back issues will tell you the last thing you are going to do is try to intentionally make it worse. Dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Right now, the cops are responsible until further details emerge. The burden of proof is on those six. And I would not at all be surprised to learn that at least one of the six was black, given the composition of the police department.

A dead/paralyzed person tends to roll around and slam against the wall when in the back of a moving van...

I wondered what they offered that other prisoner. Early parole?

The management of the police department is largely black. Wouldn't it just be easier to out the six and then ride in on the white horse as heroes of the community? In cases of governmental scandals, a lot of times the feds will sacrifice a mid level management type so as to show the public they are doing something proactive. If it's between the perceived integrity of the Baltimore Police Department and six measly cops, I'm giving the public the cops if I'm the kingmaker over there.
