FORGET 2016; here's why:

I've heard people say that about oil before. If that's the case then why aren't we drilling in the U.S.?

That's a good question. Of course, you assume that the government would actually be willing to have energy independence. They talk about it, but how many of them really want it? I don't think their intent is to have energy independence at all. They are intent on perpetuating the false dilemmas that keep this country entrapped in fear. There's always more to be done that's not being done, but the hype is just hype.

It's a fine line. People need to be pessimistic enough about the future that we keep fighting but not so pessimistic that we say "Screw donating to Ron Paul! I need to take what money I have, buy survival gear and head off to some third world Island where I can at least bribe my way to some modicum of freedom."

I have to admit I am nearing that point. Saving my money doesn't seem like a bad idea. It is sound fiscal policy, after all. I know savings are depleted in an economy that relies on a limitless supply of fiat money, but it is still better than trying to spend money you don't have.

The issue is that we are taking it out faster than it is being created. As once 3rd world countries are being developed, the problem is going to get worse. But, right now, there is a lot of oil left, if the government would allow it to be drilled.

LE, how do you know it's being taken out faster than it is being drilled? From where did you derive this conclusion?

It sure as hell is NOT going to be these guys...

They may mention the NDAA or HR 347 but only because OBAMA signed it. If a Republican signed it, you wouldnt hear a word from these gate keepers.

Think about it, McCain and Lindsey Graham pushed for the military's authority to round up citizens...

Yep, both sides of that coin (repub/demo) are guilty. That's the point!

I agree with you, I did not mean to imply that there are no reserves. There are reserves both foreign and domestic both untapped and tapped (there are productive tapped wells which have been currently left idle by the companies that own them).
The point is just as you stated, consumption out strips production. No resource is limitless at some threshold diminishing returns kick in, there's also a threshold for saturation (where in consumption meets or exceeds functional rates of production).

To use a simplistic analogy if you are burning more wood for heating in a year than grows in a year consumption is overextended (just like what happens when you spend beyond your means). Reserves will buffer us for awhile but so long as consumption continues to increase we face this selfsame problem (and the specter of functionally running out of oil) the only question is when. (And regardless of which dates someone applies the answer is "sooner" as each 3rd world nation comes on line/as power and infrastructure needs expand within major industrialized nations like China to keep pace with population demands)

Consumption > Production pretty much always equals a bad day.

Or put another way, it works the same as this:
If you want to simplify the debt problem, you could use calculation like this and integrate the cuts which RP proposes:

It would be great to get RP's, Romney's, Santorum's, Newt, and Obama's plans like this...simple numbers, so people can see RP is the only one with REAL cuts.

I literally screamed out of disgust. I can't believe this shit. Panetta can go suck a sock.

Panetta?? I think you mean Sessions. I'm totally shocked at Sessions, the people of Texas should vote him out the next election cycle. Seems to be living in a dream world.

That is a very good point, I'll put it on my to do list :)
If anyone has direct links to this info on hand PMing it my way would make this easier, thanks :)

From what I have been told by people who used to work with my father in the oil business. But, there is still a lot of crude in the ground.
